The best from danish designer Ole Yde’s latest collection

Danish designer Ole Yde

Copenhagen has long been the breeding ground for some of the most conceptual designers of our time and Ole Yde, designer of luxury ready to wear label YDE is one of the most intriguing we’ve come across in a while. With features in publications such as US & British Vogue, Women’s Wear Daily and Elle and acclaim for it’s unique blend of Nordic design and luxurious materials, the brand has quietly been making a name for itself and we’re sitting up and taking notice.

Ole Yde - YDE Copenhagen

Ole Yde is a thirty-four year old designer, originally from Odense, Denmark, who moved to Copenhagen aged eighteen to attend Denmark’s design school. However, in 2002 Ole left school to pursue his passion and set up his own label, not looking back since. What began as creating one of a kind dresses for private clients has evolved into a fully-fledged luxury label. YDE was officially launched in 2005 and has gone from strength to strength, with Ole winning ILLUM’s design prize, the Silver thread award for new talent of the year and then GINEN award for designer of the year. The awards themselves are a testament to Ole’s brand, with craftsmanship and detailing ingrained in the artisan luxury of the label. Based in a Copenhagen atelier the YDE team blends the heritage of tailoring with Scandinavian influences, created feminine yet masterful pieces.

The brands flagship boutique in Copenhagen houses the sophisticated daywear as well as the glamorous eveningwear and opulent made to order pieces that launched Ole’s career. One often associates conceptual design with minimalistic or futuristic silhouettes but YDE presents a more feminine take on the Avant-garde. In the latest collection, frills and ruffles are exemplified in a collection that is both historical yet modern. The collection begins with a seductive touch of gothic, giving way to jewel tones and ending with purest white. The range of silhouettes perfectly illustrates Ole’s understanding of feminine tailoring; the blouses are wonderfully detailed, with ruffled sleeves and oversized cuffs and dresses are complete with draped shoulders, dropped waists and all realised in beautiful satins, chiffons and organzas. Our favourite looks from the collection are the Araween skirt, a fabulously flirty skirt with a fit and flare silhouette and the Allegra, an elegant and extravagant to the floor dress in cream and gold brocade with a wonderful gathering detail at the shoulder, guaranteed to turn heads.

A self-confessed coffee addict, collector of fabulous high heels and a lover of the written word, Gina plans on taking over the world of Fashion Publishing one story at a time. When she’s not shopping for beautiful new finds or devouring the latest catwalk pictures she can usually be found curled up with her favourite novel.
