Jordin Sparks stars in her first film Sparkle, teaming up with icon Whitney Houston on the big screen this August
In the film, Director of TV shows The Game and Girlfriends, Salim Akil tells the story of musical prodigy Sparkle (Jordin Sparks.) The film is about young starletets trying to make it big in the Motown era.
Being brought up in an affluent Detroit neighborhood by a former musician and imperious single mother (Whitney Houston,), Sparkle is trying hard to make it big. Miss Sparkle must balance her rough family life, a blooming romance with her music manager (Derek Luke) and her rocky rise to fame in a Motown era music group with her two sisters (Carmen Ejogo and Tike Sumpter.) Additional cast members include Mike Epps, Omari Hardwick, and musician CeeLo Green.
Sparkle is a remake of the 1976 film about the girl group Sister and Her Sisters and according to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie “pops with energy and welcome new angles to the plot and characters.” Most of the film’s reviews highlight it’s fantastic music with soulful and vintage sounding tunes. Listen to Houston’s last-ever tracks — just released for the film’s soundtrack.
This is our last chance to see Whitney shine at her best. So, will you be watching Sparkle this August?
