This past Saturday (September 29) celebrities and musicians came together for the Global Citizen Festival held at the Great Lawn of Central Park in New York City. World leaders alongside celebrities such as Selena Gomez, Katharine McPhee, Michelle Trachtenberg and John Legend joined forces to fight extreme poverty and disease and urge world citizens to do more to help the cause.
Katie Couric hosted the event which featured rockers Neil Young with Crazy Horse, Foo Fighters and Band of Horses along with rapper K’Naan. According to the foundation’s website, “The Global Citizen Festival aims to mobilize more than 50,000 people to take action in support of ending extreme poverty.”
Organised by The Global Poverty Project to coincide with this week’s United Nations General Assembly, the advocacy concert united around a simple yet powerful idea: to give every child a chance to thrive.
