Despite the bad weather, last night was a night to remember for us Londoners as the 2013 EE British Academy Film Awards took place at the Royal Opera House in London.
Anne Hathaway won Best Supporting Actress for her emotional and inspiring portrayal of Fantine in ‘Les Misérables’, (one of the films four wins of the night!) and we were happy to see Emmanuelle Riva pulling off a surprise win when she was awarded the gong for Best Leading Actress in ‘Amour’, making the 85 year old the oldest person to ever win an acting Bafta.
Ben Affleck’s directorial debut ‘Argo’ won the coveted Best Film Award, as well as scooping him the Best Director and Best Editing honours, leaving him feeling overwhelmed. Backstage the actor was heard saying “We feel so grateful, I’ve never been here… to actually win feels incredibly welcoming.”
Daniel Day-Lewis meanwhile picked up the Best Leading Actor award for his role in ‘Lincoln’, while Christoper Waltz claimed Best Supporting Actor for his work in ‘Django Unchained’, with the film also picking up the award for Original Screenplay, courtesy of Quentin Tarantino.
With the award ceremony out of the way, the winners were able to turn their minds to more important matters…namely, where should they store their trophies?
Tarantino was first to weigh in on the debate, declaring “my awards are on one big shelf – but do I put it next to my other Bafta or on the other side?”
Anna Hathaway, of course, was much more modest, explaining “I think I’m going to get a tool shed and put it in my garage.”
