‘English Rose goes to the Northern Lights’
Hosted at the Royal Opera House, Matthew Williamson’s show at London Fashion Week was a seriously big deal. Fronted by Cara Delevingne, the show was certainly one of our favourites so far. For those who couldn’t get to the show, the considerate designer had live tweets of his pieces, for all of us hungry fashion maven-ravens, eager to get a glimpse of the spectacle.
The collection had such a huge range of looks, showcasing sporty-chic, girly, smart and glamorous outfits, much to our delight. Inspired by the Northern Lights, Matthew Williamson’s AW13 collection, showcased on Sunday night, was spectacular, glitzy, and featured lots of ice blues and acid green hues.
In addition, Scandinavian-style knitwear and thick furs topped off the Northern Lights theme. Whilst there were classic deep shades of reds, blues and purples present in this gorgeous collection, the ice-blues, acid greens and silver sequins were breath of fresh air, and a fabulous element of opulence. Midi and maxi lengths were the choice of this shows’ pieces, adding an element of classic elegance to the outfits. What was most interesting about the Matthew Williamson show is that not only was the collection as a whole varied, but each individual outfit, even each individual piece – simultaneously fulfilled the briefs of different style appreciations. One would have to use a lot of different adjectives to describe these pieces, that’s for sure.
