Even if the current weather is no indication, spring is actually on its way. It is one of our favourite times of year, especially because it involves a wardrobe change. Spring dresses and adorable little shorts means it’s time to show a little skin, and that means its time to get toned up.
There is a lot of buzz surrounding ballet barre fitness, which has come over from the States, and of course we wanted to try so we booked a class at barrecore, located in the heart of Chelsea. The classes are an hour long and involve ballet and Pilates-based interval training and stretching so that you are burning fat, toning muscles and increasing flexibility.
The class begins with a little bit of cardio, and then adds free weights, press-ups, and stretching before it’s time to hit the barre. The barre workout involves making tiny isometric movements with your legs that may not look that hard, but burns like crazy so you know that it really is working. There is a lot of standing on tip-toes, and a lot of wincing and shaking. The class ends focusing on your abdominal and back muscles, so that you get a total body workout in one single hour. We’re hooked!
The studio is located in Chelsea on Kings Road, but the team is promising more locations soon. If you can’t make it in to the studio then barrecore offers virtual online classes. Studio classes are £28/class, and there are options to buy packages.
