Cricket Chic At Chanel Cruise 2013/14
We’re all for the sports-luxe trend, but is this taking it a little too far? Karl Lagerfeld unveiled Chanel Cruise 2014 in Singapore late last week, shocking fashion’s elite with his cricket-inspired collection.
Models strutted down the runway fitted out in full-gear shin pads, bats and gloves. Crisp white shirts fastened with old school ties and large V-neck sweaters completed the preppy looks, seen on the likes of Stella Tennant and Lindsey Wixson. However, it wasn’t all androgynous – ethnic-printed pantsuits, sequined tuxedo-dresses and knit minis were all seen in this lighter version of the usual Chanel couture.
“I like the idea that it’s not impeccable. There’s a romantic charm that new things cannot always have,” said Karl of the show. “It’s not [just] about the historical details, but also the mood. It’s a bit of Chanel’s history and a bit of influence from this part of the world. You don’t get into the details, you reinvent the details.”
The show was held in a former nutmeg plantation and army barracks in Singapore – the first and only Asian city so far to host the luxury label.
