Red Hot Lips For Red Lippy Project

Some say that beauty is only skin deep. But when makeup and charity, or social awareness combine we here at YCB believe that beauty is created. In the past, M.A.C successfully launched a beauty campaign with their M.A.C AIDS fund with VIVA GLAM and last week, to raise awareness for Cervical Cancer, the #RedLippyProject was created. A huge instagram and twitter campaign designed to encourage and remind women to get regular smear tests to prevent the development of cancerous cells on the cervix, an increasingly common form of cancer that has previously gone unacknowledged, was launched by @RedLippyProject.

Around here, we believe that everyone should own a killer red lipstick. We rely on our red lipstick to look good in any occasion and in business, rocking a red lip draws attention to the lips- great if you’re presenting! Here at Your Coffee Break, most of us wear red lipstick all day, every day and we are not the only ones. All the beauty icons wore red lipstick, from Marilyn Monroe and her signature scarlet pout, to modern day vintage girl Lana Del Rey with her flawlessly full lips. A red lip is a classic beauty trend, and while shades or formula may change, it will never go out of fashion.

Our beauty team tried and tested our favourite red lipsticks for the Cervical Cancer Awareness Week, June 9-15. From drugstore favourites to designer beauties, we’ve searched out the boldest and brightest red lipsticks in support of this fantastic cause.

Jade Beauty Editor - Your Coffee BreakOur Beauty Ed, Jade, shares some tips on how to create the perfect, long-lasting red lip:

“Even though Cervical Cancer Awareness week is over, you can still wear your punchy pout.”

“Preparation is key! Start by gently exfoliating your lips with a softened, old tooth brush to ensure you have a smooth base. To avoid ‘bleeding’ line your lips with a lip liner of a similar shade to your lisptick. Alternatively, you can play around with different coloured lip pencils to change the end result of your lipstick or create bang on trend ombre style lips. Although you can apply straight from the bullet, a lip brush will give you more control and result in a much neater look!”

Jade lives by the quote ‘In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different’ as said by Coco Chanel. She loves vintage fashion, red lipstick and caramel lattes. Pursuing a career in fashion and beauty public relations and journalism, she wants to work in London, Paris and New York.
