Stars turn on the glamour at the MTV EMAs 2013
Sunday night all eyes and ears were fastened to MTV for their EMA’s; the network’s European answer to their legendary Video Music Awards. Held at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, the award show was undoubtedly the world’s biggest night in music, as fans around the world cast a whopping 292 million votes for their favorite artists. The stars worked the red carpet before the show, (literally) wearing their Sunday best. Though some of the looks were tired and predictable, there were a few well-dressed celebs who completely knocked us off of our feet.
Not only did Katy Perry take home the award for Best Female Artist, the Prism songstress also took the red carpet by surprise in an elegant and conservative Zac Posen Resort 2014 dress – can you say fresh off the runway. Though this look was a definite departure from her more revealing ensembles, the striking mint shade and figure-hugging silhouette were anything but boring. Katy completed her look with a jewel encrusted Dolce & Gabbana headband and dusty-rose, mesh Charlotte Olympia platforms.
Ellie Goulding was positively radiant in a Dolce & Gabbana peek-a-boo black lace gown. The singer showed off her immaculate physique in a body-bearing ensemble. There are plenty of stars who could not pull off such a bold look, but our hats are off to Ellie, as she was able to class up a revealing dress and stuck to minimal make up and beachy waves.
Another gal who ventured away from her signature style was Ariana Grande. Her red carpet love affair with Project Runway designer, Kenley Collins, came to a halt for Sunday’s EMA’s. Instead, the young starlet replaced her classic 50’s-inspired floral frocks for a sleek knee-length bodycon dress by Mikael D. The look was definitely more grown up than what we’re used to seeing on Grande, but we absolutely loved it. The light satin was embellished with black lace, proving that Ariana has definitely graduated from Nickelodeon, but sticking to her classic bouncy curls kept her look young, fresh, and fun.
Rita Ora stunned in a slinky black Calvin Klein floor length gown. This look was another pleasant surprise, as Ora doesn’t typically take the simple, sexy, and chic avenue; but, boy, are we glad she did. The gorgeous frock boasted a low cut neckline and thigh-high slit, allowing for a bit of Angelia Jolie-esque leg action. Miss Ora sported her signature red lip and romantic platinum waves. Her look quite reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour; all in she looked down right ravishing.
