Roundup: Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week
Fashion royalty gathered in Paris to feast their eyes upon Haute Couture Spring/Summer 14 Fashion Week, the pinnacle of decadence and highlight of the sartorial calendar. From sneakers to sequins, Spring 2014 was a season of variety and Couture Fashion Week did not disappoint.
Karl Lagerfield went sporty chic with Chanel, walking the runway with his stage bride Cara Delevingne, Zuhair Murad wowed with black, white and gold lace and Elie Saab treated us to a pastel palette, set off with the brand’s high standard of embellishment. Valentino vamped up Spring 2014 with burgundy and black, showcasing both delicate sheer dresses and long, tasseled throws whilst Dior was all about the overlays; slashed skirts and latticed tops layered over sheer fabrics reminded us of a wardrobe worthy doily cloth.
Viktor and Rolf were surprisingly underwhelming, showcasing a ballet themed collection paired with cave girl hair. Whilst the looks were certainly lovely, we felt they would have been much better suited to a ready to wear show. After all, what is Couture if not breathtakingly extravagant.
Atelier Versace channeled a 9-5 goddess with tight tailoring and silk draping. The centerpiece however was off the catwalk, with Lady Gaga modeling the crystal mesh hood and slowing morphing into Donatella’s slightly younger twin.
