Tory Burch AW14 collection: Little House on the Prairie meets Clueless
Tory Burch is the designer du jour for celebrities and bloggers everywhere, always excelling in unique prints and signature accessories. Her AW14 collection shown at Avery Fisher Hall in New York City during Fashion Week was a beautiful blend of boho-esque silk shirt dresses in strong yet feminine patterns, with tough accents from the lace up ghillie heels and lashings of leather, fur and embellishment. The looks were very Little House on the Prairie meets Clueless but in the best possible way with an amazing leather pleated jacket over a ditsy printed dress with contrasting black collar and topped off with luxe knee socks and sheepskin bowling bag. Here at Your Coffee Break, we loved the wool pleated jacket and mini combo which is destined to be wardrobe staple in the Autumn Winter uniform.
The collection focused on a palette of black, navy and shades of red and built on this with strong use of accessories, topping off a lot of the looks with armour inspired belts in mainly gold for a more mature, modern direction. Soft navy roll necks and silk bombers were transformed using bold embellishment in a variety of colours and royalty got a revamp with a deep red brocade detailing showing up on trousers, coats and an adorable skirt suit, giving the Joan of Arc inspired looks a much welcomed injection of youth. Fur accents have played a integral part in NYFW this season, and the Tory Burch show was no different, featuring a wool-fur combination coat cinched at the waist with a hammered gold belt and an inspiring forest green wool coat with a black fur waistband running round it. The small touches took the collection to new heights with an undone elegance that is signature to the Tory Burch brand.
Models were also seen carrying a selection of muffs down the catwalk, ranging from natural brown to bold tapestry prints, a trend that we would like to see take off here. Echoing accessories from a bygone era, the collection redefined such items with added hardware, bolder prints and jewels, not to mention we will now want to wear knee socks with pretty much everything come Autumn.
