London’s queens of cool present an MTV worthy collection
Fashion month is a time when the world’s most creative minds push the boundaries of style; what was thought untenable a year ago is now desirable and chic. It’s always unwise to suggest that there is a particular look or style that can never work – in the right hands anything is possible. The Felder Felder A/W14 show was one such collection that challenged the pre-conceived notions of what should work – who knew that PVC, feathers and daring cut-out details could cohere in one alluring look? But work it does; a green faux leather bralet and black feather skirt was one of the most covetable looks of the collection.
The atmosphere at the show was excited and edgy; we were all anxious to see what Annette and Daniela Felder would come up with next. To be in with the Felder Felder crowd is to hang out with achingly hip, slightly dangerous but ever so beguiling girls – the ones at school who flouted the rules but always managed to get away with it. The twin sisters have honed a niche for clothes that the aforementioned cool girls wear; Florence Welch, Jessie J, Nicole Scherzinger, Rita Ora and Katy Perry are just of few of Felder Felder’s celebrity fans.
It’s easy to see why this label is so appealing to today’s young pop stars – these are clothes that call for big personalities – the sloping, slashed cutouts, panels of sheer fabric, feather embellishments and PVC pant suits are for the fashion fearless. However, amongst the dramatic, revealing ensembles were some very wearable pieces.
The collection was, at first glance, tailor-made for celebrities attending glamorous events who want to flex their sartorial muscles. However, upon closer inspection, there were a number of pieces that could work in a more casual, less high maintenance environment. Our hero piece is a quilted, midi dress in a delicate, dripping paint print that we would style with an impeccably tailored blazer and classic pumps for a fashion forward, yet feminine look.
