Roland Mouret for Banana Republic
Here at Your Coffee Break we love a good designer / high street collaboration so we were excited to hear that Roland Mouret, he of the infamous Galaxy dress, has teamed up with Banana Republic to create a 25-piece collection that will launch in August.
Mouret is known for fitted, feminine silhouettes and his use of draping, and has fast become a favourite of celebs like Victoria Beckham, Cameron Diaz and Dita Von Teese. If you’ve always dreamt of emulating their looks then this could be your chance, as his trademark dresses will retail from $165, a mere fraction of the cost of designs from his label!
The capsule collection will comprise trousers, skirts, tops and, of course, dresses. But the French designer says these pieces aren’t just going to be ready to wear copies of his past designs; this is very much a new collaboration between the designer and Banana Republic. ‘The common goal for this collection is to offer incredible fit through an assortment of hourglass silhouettes using Banana Republic’s Sloan fabric, extending my love of structure in to accessible prices’, Mouret recently explained.
Working previously with the likes of Issa London and L’Wren Scott, Banana Republic is known for being (quite rightly!) picky about who it collaborates with. The brand actively seeks out those who are known for their sophisticated, mature and feminine aesthetic. We think that makes Roland Mouret and Banana Republic a match made in sartorial heaven, and it would seem that the store’s VP of women’s design, Melloney Birkett, feels the same way as she described her admiration for Mouret’s skills: ‘he has such a strong sense of how to dress a woman, and brings a beautiful sensuality to his work’.
We’ve heard that the Roland Mouret for Banana Republic collection is going to include a lot of colour blocking, graphic perforated details, playful proportions and svelte cuts, but given we’ve still got a few weeks to wait until the clothes hit the high street, why not whet your appetite by perusing Mouret’s previous designs online!
