Summer workwear: how to stay powerful whilst beating the heat
The summer has so many wonderful things that come with it. Late night pool parties, weekend barbeques, the way that a sun hat and a glass of lemonade somehow always seem appropriate. But like all things, there are also some downsides… namely, the heat. It starts early, it lasts late and sometimes it can be so overpowering there’s no hiding from it. And while this makes beach days all the better, it can make figuring out what to wear to work a pain and a half. You don’t want to be sweating during your morning meeting, but you also don’t want to show up to the office in a crop top and jean shorts. Thankfully, we’ve discovered some pieces great for beating the heat all while staying chic and stylish, all thanks to Amazon Fashion.
1. Checkered Shirt
This airy shirt looks great on its own for days your office is blasting the A/C. The breezy material will keep you cool, while the bold prints and colour will make a statement, meaning you can stay away from heavy jewelry on particularly muggy days. Pair this with white pants, dainty earrings and neutral wedges. You’ll stay professional and summery without feeling like you’re being overpowered by the sun.
2. Striped Skirt
One of the things we love about the summer is incorporating nautical vibes into our wardrobes, without looking costumey or over-the-top. This midi skirt with fun, printed stripes is different from your typical maritime wear but still makes you look like you just stepped off a fabulous yacht in Cannes. It’s a great way to avoid showing a lot of skin while still staying cool in the heat.
3. Colourful Tank Dress
When it’s hot and humid outside, sometimes you just want a no-fuss outfit that you know will look great. This tank dress is great to throw on with a pair of black flats or strappy sandals for an easy, go-to look. To stay extra cool, pull your hair up and accessorize with a ponytail cuff. It will make your hair look that more polished and it will add a bit of glam to your outfit without adding any more weight.
4. Printed Dress
If you have a performance review, a meeting with your boss, or a presentation you’ve been prepping for weeks, you want something that will leave you feeling powerful and prepared, not worried about whether you’re going to be uncomfortable throughout the day. This floral print dress commands attention without being over the top and would look beautiful with modest pumps and a thin necklace. If you’re feeling fearless, go for simple eye makeup and a pretty pink lipstick, too.
5. Bright Whites
I can’t help but love a girl dressed in all white in the summertime. It looks fresh and chic, and I always feel like white gives you an extra boost of confidence. Wear this one with a full skirt, skinny pants, or even a great pair of shorts. Take advantage of the blank palette and add a statement necklace or a fun colored bag.
6. Detailed Pants
Just because it’s hot it doesn’t mean you can’t find a pair of pants that will keep you covered and cool in the heat. These looser capris are still work appropriate due to the neutral color and delicate details, but they won’t stick to your skin all day long. Tuck in a flowy tank and rock some heeled sandals to balance out the length of the pants for an outfit that can take you from a work meeting to a picnic in the park.
