Summer dressing for active women
As active women we face a very real dilemma as cool, early-summer days slowly morph into midsummer melters. What’s a girl to do when it’s too hot to simply step outside, let alone do anything that requires deliberately active movement? This burning question — pun intended — puts us at a crossroads every year. We can either bear the heat but run the risk of collapsing in a dizzy, sweaty heap, or we can give up altogether, locking ourselves indoors blasting the AC.
Not so fast—we’re not ones to drop the ball when the going gets tough… or hot, in this case. Refusing to be beaten by the heat, we started searching for clothes we could wear that’d keep us looking and feeling cool whilst working up a sweat this summer, and ladies, we think we’ve found them.
Whether you’re attending a yoga class, walking the dog, hanging out with friends or jogging in the park, EKO pieces are designed for real life. They’re about comfort and relaxation, but also about staying active and connected to the natural world.
‘We select the kindest eco fabrics’, founder Helen Davies tells us. ‘Tencel and organic cotton jersey compliment our designs and our philosophy: feel good about what you wear’. Made for the woman who enjoys the simple things in life—from an early morning coffee while getting down the ‘to do’ list, to a good read on a lazy Sunday afternoon— and who leads an active lifestyle, the collection’s practical design and natural simplicity is just the type of feel-good functionality we look for on a hot summer’s day!
When it comes to staying stylish whilst being acting during the hotter months, Helen suggests adhering to two rules: ‘layering’, and ‘less is more’. Pair your luxury basics with versatile wraps and tunics, and invest in simple designs that can be combined in different ways to create multiple looks. Ok, when you’re going for a run your hair might be a bit of a mess and you might not want to put makeup on in case it melts off your face, but slipping in to a comfortable and pretty top will keep you looking stylish regardless. ‘Simple feminine details are added to classic styles, from back neck loops to small pleats, to flatter the female form’.
So, it’s time to get active. No longer can you use the heat as an excuse not to get outdoors and get moving:
Morning yoga
‘A versatile fold up or down waistband give these leggings are supportive feel and sports luxe look’. Now that sounds perfect for a spot of relaxing morning meditation to us!
Walking the dog
A knee length jersey dress is ideal for a walk in the park with the pup …and if you happen to bump in to the girls at your local brunch haunt after? Well, you already look the part! ‘With elegant flowing lines and flattering cross over front, this dress is both timeless and ageless. A great look layered over leggings for an active summer day or combined with a savasana wrap for classic evening look’.
Barrecore class
Working out at the barre is the hottest gym trend this summer, so you better make sure you look the part! ‘A functional cover up that can be tied as a classic ballet wrap, wrapped and buttoned at the back or left open and draped. A great trans-seasonal piece and that looks good layered’.
Evening run
A loose tee is a must to let the evening breeze reach your skin as you pound the pavement. ‘It’s an organic wardrobe staple that feels super soft against your skin’.
Walking around your city
How often do you get a taxi around the city? We know they have air-con in there, but how about exploring the city on foot this summer? An organic maxi dress will keep you cool, so you won’t miss that AC! ‘A combination of feminine centre front and back style lines and scoop neck create an elegant simplicity that never dates, great for active days exploring and lazy summer nights’.
