Best Dressed at the EE British Academy Film Awards
This past Sunday saw the 69th British Academy Film Awards, more commonly known as the BAFTAs, grace the streets of Covent Garden in the heart of London. The ceremony, held at the Royal Opera House, attracts industry heavy weights from around the world every year and 2016 was no exception!
As with any red carpet event, it was glamour galore, and we’ve chosen our favourites and compiled a Best Dressed list. A hard job but someone’s got to do it, right?
An obvious contender for Best Dressed is YCB favourite Alicia Vikander. The Swedish actress looked gorgeously gothic in her Louis Vuitton number. She let the dramatic leather dress do the talking, and left her makeup pared back along with her hair over to one side in fresh waves. Vikander attended the ceremony with a rare double nomination; one for Leading Actress in The Danish Girl, and one for Supporting Actress in Ex Machina.
Cate Blanchett wowed everyone in a custom made Alexander McQueen dress. The 46- year-old actress was nominated in the Leading Actress category for her brilliant role in Carol. The dress was a tapered feathered gown with a floral top with small cut outs. The Australian kept her makeup simple but elegant, with an equally modest up-do, but kept up the glamour by accessorising with intricate diamond jewellery.
Returning to present the award she won last year, with Still Alice, Julianne Moore stunned on the red carpet in a custom Armani Prive gown. The white fish tail gown with black ribbon detailing was not only spot on trend but an elegant choice for Moore. Her auburn hair was tied up in a top knot, and was paired with classic makeup with a bright pink lip. She chose metallic jewellery which perfectly complimented her look.
The stunning Dakota Johnson, rising to fame in the notorious Fifty Shades series, also made our Best Dressed list in a bright red Dior number. Johnson, the grand-daughter of Hitchcock’s star Tippi Hendren, was nominated in the Rising Star category of the BAFTAs. Johnson complemented her bold plunging gown, with a bright red lip and faint smoky eye. This look is a wonderful example of showing skin but staying classy!
Living up to the standards of her Bond girl role, Olga Kurylenko looked every bit the part. The former Bond girl wore an intricate Ralph and Russo gown, a definite contender on our Best Dressed list! The dress was a white sheer gown with over laid with an intricate lace design. The stunning brunette made an impact with her dress and subsequently kept her hair and makeup simple with a nude lip and old Hollywood waves.
British model, Lily Donaldson, represented the Brit model pack well, posing up a storm of the red carpet. Donaldson, wore a dazzling floor length number, the Victoria Secret model showed off her enviably long legs under the sheer black Saint Laurent gown. With her bright blonde locks, looking like the fashion week favourite she is, the blonde bombshell paired her look with a bold red lip.
