Guide to solving winter skin issues with ARRAN Sense of Scotland
The fitness subscriptions have begun. A herbal tea has replaced the Baileys nightcap. The celebration boxes lay bare except for a few untouched Bountys. That’s right, it’s January. January is that time of year where fun and gluttony are put to one side and everyone finds a short spurt of self-restraint and dedication. Whether you intend to stick to your morning runs or evening pilates class is your business. However, one resolution we can really vouch for is to get into a skincare regime. A skincare regime is one of (if not the only) new year’s bandwagon I’ve hopped on that has stuck and is especially essential after the journey your skin takes during the festive season. Start the year as you mean to go on- with a glow.
Detox
We’d would recommend investing in a solid mask to cleanse away the impurities that come with December’s treats and renew your skin for January. For example, the Sea Mud Mask by ARRAN Sense of Scotland contains natural Kaolin to draw out these impurities and replace lost minerals. It also contains essential oils of Bergamot and Mint act to tone and revitalise. Good as new!
Roll Around the Eyes
If you notice an increase in puffiness around the eyes, alcohol and salty foods can be to blame for this as they cause water retention in the face. This combined with interrupted sleeping patterns can be the reason why you are waking up looking like a fish. I like to combat my fish-face with an ice-cold jade roller and some a hydrating eye cream. I place the jade roller in a freezer the night before and roll Formulas Eye Gel by ARRAN Sense of Scotland around the eyes to help reduce puffiness and swelling. It’s light and cooling with extracts of Green Tea and Witch Hazel to soothe and revitalise your eye area.
NB: The Formulas Eye Gel can also be kept in the fridge to help soothe tired eyes!
Moisturise
You might blame the freezing temperatures for your dehydrated skin, but the way you react to these temperatures plays a large part too. For example, blasting your heater will zap all of the moisture out of the air and a long hot shower will do the same to your skin. Realistically, we love a warm, cozy room during the winter and unless you’re into the Wim Hoff Method, I don’t expect any January ice-baths. Therefore it is essential you excessively moisturise for the first few months of the new year. The best time to do so is after your hot warm shower while your face and body are still damp. A vitamin-rich moisturiser is particularly useful to nourish the skin, such as ARRAN Sense of Scotland’s Formulas Jojoba & Vitamin E All Weather Moisturiser. Jojoba Oil has anti-inflammatory properties which help to tackle chapping dryness, reduce redness caused by drying, nourish and calm the skin.
Double Cleanse
Lets face it, any bit of natural tan our faces got from that one day of summer is long-gone, if it was ever present to begin with. During these cold, dark months you may find yourself reaching for a bit of extra concealer or foundation to achieve the sunkissed look (or if you’re like me, the ‘I’m not actually ill’ look). Unfortunately, more makeup means more effort is required during the bed-time regime. Long gone are the days when it was acceptable to clean your face with a baby wipe and I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but micellar water doesn’t quite hack it either. The best option is a two in one cleanser and toner such as Formulas Aloe Vera & Witch Hazel Facial Cleanser & Toner followed by another lotion or gel cleanser that is suitable for your skin type.
This new year’s resolution of a new and improved skin-care regime will help your skin thrive during the rest of the winter months. Once these four steps are implemented into your daily routine, watch your skin glow all the way into 2022.
