Relationships and situation-ships can be hard, particularly for those in the limelight, such as the islanders from recent reality series 10, Love Island, after their ‘outside-world’ relationships are soon to be tested.
Relationships expert, Charlotte Johnson, at Mega Pleasure shares exactly what islanders should do now they have left the villa:
“After Love Island or any reality TV show, it can be challenging to transition to a real-life relationship and avoid falling into a “situation-ship,” where the connection is unclear or lacks commitment.”
We chatted with Charlotte who shared her tips with us to help you solidify your relationship and ensure it becomes more than just a temporary fling;
Communication is key – Open and honest communication is essential. Talk about your feelings, expectations, and what you both want from the relationship and make sure to be clear about your intentions and make sure you’re both on the same page.
Take it slow – After a whirlwind experience on a reality show, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement. But taking time to get to know each other outside the show is crucial. Spend quality time together, explore common interests, and see if your connection can withstand the challenges of real life.
Set boundaries – Define what you both are comfortable with and establish boundaries early on. It’s essential to have a mutual understanding of what you expect from each other and what’s off-limits.
Avoid external pressures – After being on a reality TV show, there may be public and media attention on your relationship. Try not to let external pressures influence your decisions. Focus on building your connection privately and at your own pace.
Work on trust – Trust is the foundation of any strong relationship. Be reliable, honest, and consistent in your actions. If there are trust issues, address them openly and work together to rebuild trust.
Give each other space – While spending time together is important, and you would have already spent A LOT of time together already, it’s also crucial to maintain your individuality and give each other space.
Show appreciation and affection – Don’t take each other for granted. Express gratitude and affection regularly to nurture a loving and caring bond.
Keep the romance alive – Don’t let the spark fizzle out. Continue to surprise each other, go on dates, and find ways to keep the romance alive.
Charlotte said: “Remember, building a strong and lasting relationship takes time, effort, and commitment from both partners. By communicating openly, respecting each other’s boundaries, and working on trust and mutual understanding, you can solidify your relationship and avoid falling into a situation-ship.”
