Fall 2024 Handbag Trends: Suede Sophistication, Bold Bag Charms, and the Boho Revival

Fall 2024 Handbag Trends: Suede Sophistication, Bold Bag Charms, and the Boho Revival

September 2, 2024

Suede for fall? Groundbreaking, as Miranda Priestly would say. But there is something so alluringly seasonal about a beautiful rich brown suede bag as the weather turns crispier. Suede fits in seamlessly with the quiet luxury, demure trend for fall.

Best Suede Bags for Fall 2024

The main star of this season is The Row’s Margaux bag. It is big and bold yet so simple and so suede. And for nearly $6,000 it can be yours. Or you can get one of the many well-done knockoffs without going broke like this one from Etsy.

Some other super beautiful suede bags for fall include the Veronica Beard Dash Bag, as well as this beautiful Polo ID Suede Large Shoulder Bag.

Madewell really hit it out of the park this season with their variety of suede bags. This Essential Bucket Tote from Madewell is a real beauty and the perfect size for your laptop. For a smaller option the crossbody bag is also practical and great to look at. And for a little fun go for the studded Essential Convertible Top Handle Crossbody Mini Bag.

The Bag Charm Trend

Then we have the loud and proud bag charm trend on the other end of the spectrum. Searches for “bag charms” have gone up 240% on Pinterest since last year. Adding large charms to your beautiful, often expensive bag has come to be known as “Jane Birkinfying.” Though some may think these charms are tacky half the time they cost more than the bag (those little Hermes horses ain’t cheap.) Much like decorating your binder for school this is a way to express yourself (you can also opt for cheaper charms on Amazon.)

The Comeback Bags

Another big bag trend for fall is the return of boho chic. The Balenciaga Motorcycle bags were made famously popular by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen at the prime of their bag lady NYU days in the early aughts. Every young celebrity under the sun had to have one (and actually Kate Moss was the first one who started it) and now they are making quite the comeback.

Interest in the original Balenciaga City bag has surged, especially for the vintage studded versions. And for vintage designer bags, you don’t have to be as rich as an Olsen twin to afford one. Resale site Vestiaire Collective says this ranks as one of the top 10 most-desired bags of the year. You can find them easily on eBay, Poshmark and many other resale sites.

Another classic bag that you probably have in the back of your closet somewhere is the classic Longchamp bag. You may have had them during your student days and it is the young college kids of today that are bringing them back as they do make for a great book bag. Their classic preppy look and the fact that they are affordable (less than $200 for a medium-sized Le Pliage tote) has made the brand see a 44% increase in revenue in 2023, according to Business Insider. The mini Le Pliage Cosmetics Case (not big enough for your books though) has been a major hit with Gen Z as well.

Throw a bag charm on it and you are ready for fall.
