How to Create a Cinema Experience in Your Home

From the aroma of freshly-popped corn to the immersive sound systems, a trip to the cinema is always an inviting experience. However, in today’s world, this experience comes at a price. Gone are the days when we could avail of tickets for our spare change. Unless you secure a mid-week deal of some sort, a seat at the cinema can cost upwards from twenty pounds each, a hefty price for a family evening out! Therefore, here at YCB, we’re all about creating a cinematic experience in the comfort of our own homes. While we admittedly might be lacking in surround sound systems and floor-to-ceiling screens, there are certain additions to the home that can help to achieve this cinematic experience, such as TV wall brackets and speakers. Plus, with unlimited snacks, bathroom breaks, and the freedom to remain in pyjamas, staying in sounds like a no-brainer to us. Here’s how to create a cinematic experience directly in your living room.

Choose the Setting

Of course, we may not have the luxury of having a large, open room in our homes. On the other hand, the benefit of having a movie night in your home is that your experience is completely private. With only family and friends to cater to, an intimate space simply adds to the coziness! To make the most out of your space, we’d recommend investing in a TV wall bracket. This will give you the flexibility to fully adjust your tv for the perfect viewing experience while minimising clutter. What’s more, these days many TV wall brackets also have new functions that allow them to swivel and tilt, so you can move the screen horizontally and vertically, mounting it higher to avoid reflections as well as the dangerous reach of hyper-active children and pets.

Set the Mood

Once the TV has been set up, make sure all blinds and curtains are pulled, and lights dimmed. This will minimise glares and distractions. You may want to alter your lighting depending on the movie of choice. For example, if it’s a horror evening, the best option to add to the thrill may be entire darkness. On the other hand, for a family-friendly movie or a rom-com, why not decorate your surroundings with a warm glow from low-lit lamps, fairy lights, or candles (electric ones if there are children around).

Plump the Cushions

Of course, when settling in to watch a movie for the evening- comfort is key. Plump those cushions, and if the sofa doesn’t fit the whole family, get some bean bags so that everyone can snuggle in comfortably. Add pillows, cushions, throws and blankets- the fluffier the better!

Prepare Ample Snacks

There’s no denying that a movie night and an excessively large portion of popcorn go hand in hand. However, the bliss of an at-home cinema is that you can help yourself to whatever snack you please, without the extortionate mark-up price. Whip up a batch of cheesy nachos, chicken wings, or even some nibbles that tie in with the movie theme!

What’s more, if you’ve worked up an appetite that snacks simply cannot satisfy, you have the freedom of pressing pause and popping on some oven-pizzas. Have we sold the idea of an at-home movie night yet?

To conclude, not only is hosting your very own cinema cost-effective, it can be a more intimate, personalised experience. With the right television set up, an endless supply of snacks, and a comfy, cozy environment- you’ll give the real thing a run for its money.
