Celeb Hairstylist Leo Bancroft shares his tips on how to keep your hair healthy during the winter months.
During the winter months your hair can suffer dramatically. People assume that it is just during the summer that your hair is in need of moisture, however precautions and preventatives should be carried out in the winter also. To ensure your hair stays healthy and you stay looking great, follow Leo’s simple but effective winter tips.
Use conditioners daily. During the harsh weather your hair can become brittle and dry, therefore keeping it conditioned is vital in order to maintain its strength and shine. Use Sensationally Smooth Conditioner; this is perfect for dry hair and will leave it looking smooth and silky.
Leave in conditioners and hot oil treatments work well as a weekly treatment; they help the hair regain the strength needed to avoid breakages and split ends. Use Leo Bancroft’s Ultimately Intense Deep Moisture Mask. This is excellent for reviving damaged hair, leaving it extra strong and full of life. My top tip would be to wrap hair in a towel with the mask on, as the warmth allows deeper penetration of the product.
Use oil based products. During the cold weather, your hair and scalp can become extremely dry; oil based products keep your hair nourished and healthy.
Do not go out with wet hair. In cold weather water particles in your hair can freeze slightly, making hair brittle and prone to breakage, damage and split ends.
Avoid over washing hair. This can cause your hair to become dry, and it is vital you keep your natural oils to fight against the cold weather. Instead of washing it, use Rapidly Revived Dry Shampoo to keep it looking fresh and full of volume!
We all like a hot shower, however when it comes to hair, they are not always your best friend. The heat can dry out your hair as well as your scalp, leaving your hair looking limp and lifeless. Always wash your hair in warm water instead, and keep your hair looking alive. For extra protection, wear a hat or a scarf to fight off the cold harsh winds.
Avoid touching your hair, the cold weather can cause it to become brittle and it will break easily.
Cut down on your usage of hair straighteners and curling irons. Give your hair a well-earned rest and go for simple styles like the effortless ponytail, and use my Bungee Bands to avoid snagging of the hair.
When using heat on your hair, be sure to protect it by using Totally Protected heat defence spray. This will fight the frizz and leave your hair looking irresistibly smooth.
