Beauty Buzz: 10 Skincare Secrets A-listers Swear By

A flawless complexion is the Holy Grail of beauty, but how do the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Miranda Kerr and Naomi Watts manage to get that gorgeous, dewy look?

Hollywood’s finest have lifted the lid on their top beauty tips and tricks, as well as revealing how you can work them into your regime.

Beautiful, healthy skin – here we come!

1. Never forget the basics…!

That old mantra of “cleanse, tone, moisturise” is as true today as it was when it first came out, especially if you’re working long days. Actress Naomi Watts knows only too well the power of cleansing:

“Cleanser is really important to me, especially as I wear too much make-up most of the time when filming. I do shoots… wearing make-up for 10 hours a day under lights that push it into your skin. It’s then reapplied and layered on. So [my biggest skincare must] is to cleanse well and take care of my skin.”

2. Spot the difference!

Suffering from a breakout? Well, there’s no need to shell out £19 on a spot-specific cream as the remedy could be in your cupboard, according to actress Scarlett Johansson.

“If your skin is problematic or you’re having a lot of breakouts, apple cider vinegar is really healing. It’s a little bit stinky but if you’re not sleeping over at your boyfriend’s it’s really effective,” she says.

3. You are what you eat.

Actress Freida Pinto is a big believer in the beauty-from-within concept:

“Beets and carrot juice are a great way to cleanse the system and purge unwanted toxins from the body, which ultimately leads to healthy-looking skin. One piece of advice my mother gave me was to apply yoghurt on my dry skin.”

4. Want longer lashes? Get creative!

The key to long, lush lashes doesn’t have to be extensions. According to insiders, beauty icon Audrey Hepburn used to apply mascara before her make-up artist would painstakingly separate each lash using a safety pin to achieve her trademark lashes. Talk about attention to detail.

5. Use smells to transform your mood:

“I like to switch up my fragrances. I often use a different fragrance for different times. What I wear depends on the outfit I choose or the look,” explains actress Katie Holmes.

Split your fragrances into different occasions – day, evening and special event – and watch how the scents, in time, invoke different memories, which in turn will uplift your mood.

6. Wave goodbye to panda eyes:

“A good eye cream is really important when you’re traveling. Busy and stressed –that’s when the dark puffy circles can get you,” says actress Kate Winslet. Apply an eye cream morning and night, rubbing it in using circular motions. When heading out for the day, supermodel Miranda Kerr reportedly rubs lip balm around her eyes to create a shimmery glow, helping her look fresh-faced.

7. Why less is more:

For that natural look, it’s better to use a few key products than go for full on contouring, as actress Liv Tyler explains:

“After applying foundation and a little blush, dust your face with translucent powder, then mist skin with a rosewater spray and lay a Kleenex over for a second. It makes your face seem flawless in a way that looks as if you aren’t wearing any make-up.”

8. Boost skin with home remedies:

Friends star Jennifer Aniston often nourishes her skin with a homemade mask comprised of avocado and egg whites. She’s also a big believer in the power of H2O:

“Eat really healthily and drink a lot of water. Just keep yourself hydrated and use your moisturiser. Hydration, hydration, hydration all round,” says Aniston.

9. Know what works for you:

Singer Zara Larsson is pretty hands on with her beauty routine, preferring to stick to looks she’s comfortable with. “The most important things to me are my eyebrows and skin – if the skin looks good then I’m good. I do my brows myself, I tweeze them. I never let anyone touch them and I’ll apply a little brow mascara or pencil to thicken them a bit,” says Larson. “Other than that, I typically like to wear a shimmery bronzy blush – not pink because I don’t think that really fits my skin tone.”

10. Make sure to catch your zzz’s…

Elizabeth Taylor’s ultimate beauty secret is something simple but effective: “Honey, you’ll look like hell if you don’t get a good night’s sleep.” Never truer words spoken.
