The Only Way is All Natural: The Benefits of Essential Oils

Small health changes come with big health payoffs, such as including the use of essential oils in your daily beauty routine.

Organic skincare sales have gone through the roof in the past five years, with the majority of women now seeking out far friendlier, non-fragranced and natural versions of their favourite beauty products.

For the ones of you that didn’t already know, essential oils are extracts from plants that are obtained from a process called distillation and can be used for dietary, cosmetic and spiritual reasons. So technically, essential oils aren’t oils at all, as they lack fatty acids. Rather, they’re highly concentrated plant components.

There are a plethora of benefits of essential oils that help to improve your health internally as well as externally. Most commonly though, essential oils are used as an ingredient for massaging being that they are strong compounds, hence only a few drops (4-5) should be mixed with carrier oil and must be used with extreme precautions.

Essential oils can have a healing effect both mentally, physically, and emotionally… So, let’s have a look at some of the benefits of using essential oils:

Relax And Relieve Stress:

One of the most common benefits of essential oils is that it helps you relax after a long tiring day. Putting your mind and body at work everyday can make you stressed and sore. So use these oils to get rid of the stress in a soothing and easy manner. You can either get a warm body massage or just shower using oils such as 100 pure jojoba oil.

Remember that different essential oils have different benefits, so make sure to use one that is suitable for you and your needs.

There’s also aromatherapy that is highly effective in relieving stress as its scent releases a chemical in our brain that relaxes your mind and body effectively. A great technique that relaxes you and also relieves you from migraines and body aches, it involves diffusing essential oils in the air with the help of a container and then enjoying in that space.

There are many other types of essential oils worth mentioning that can be used to help you relax. These are lavender, chamomile and frankincense just to mention a few.

Improve Your Skin:

Skin is an organ that we often neglect and the results can be catastrophic. Our skin unfortunately weakens with time and is also prone to problems like acne, rashes etc. Applying certain essential oils on to your skin works like a charm and helps to heal the skin from the damages it has sustained and also fights skin diseases.

Coconut oil is one of the essential oils which is good for the skin. When applied, it gets absorbed into the skin and reaches the bloodstream and the muscles, and helps speed up the growth of new cells and eliminates the ones that are contaminated and are giving you skin problems.

Other than coconut oil, there’s lavender oil which is known to heal many skin problems, wounds and cuts. Calendula oil can also be used to heal acne scars on the body and is especially good to use on sensitive skin.

Many skin products also contain essential oils, especially tea tree oil that is considered the best remedy for certain skin issues, such as acne. Fungal and blemishes problems on the skin can also be treated by applying a few drops of tea tree oil with the help of a cotton swab on the affected areas.

Cures Illness:

Catching a cold or suffering from sinus problems is quite common today. Therefore, it’s good to know that various essential oils exist that can ward off cold symptoms.

Oregano oil is one of the oils that is a true flu fighter! Just a few drops on the tongue and you’d get rid of the flu (however, the oil doesn’t taste that nice).

Sinus problems and congestion is irritating and dangerous too. Eucalyptus is another essential oil that does its magic and relieves you from severe congestion and other breathing issues caused by the cold. Just make sure not to ingest it.

Elevate Mood And Improve Your Sleep:

Beside relieving stress, aromatherapy is also effective in making your depression go away, calm your nerves and allow you to sleep.

While essential oils have several benefits, make sure not to use any without the recommendation of an exåert. Also, remember that digesting certain essential oils can be dangerous, so make sure you’re being careful.
