With the festive glam season around the corner, our social diaries are filling up with work Christmas do’s, dinner soirées with friends and celebrations that demand our best looks. It’s time to pluck, pamper and pucker up for popping the prosecco, but have you got your self-tanning routine nailed?
While the festive season may bring about many joys, achieving a radiant and sun-kissed glow should not be a source of stress.
Tanning industry expert at Isle Of Paradise, Jules Von Hep, has shared the inside scoop of expert tips for the perfect, flawless glow this Christmas.
Timing is crucial
Jules recommends starting your self-tanning journey at least 24 hours before your Christmas event. This time frame allows for proper skin preparation and ensures that your tan develops evenly.
Jules says: “The trick to a truly flawless glow is all in the prep! Shave or wax at least 24 hours prior to application and ensure skin is exfoliated with a dry brush, scrub, or acid.”
Exfoliation is key
For an even, natural-looking tan that lasts, exfoliation is a must.
“Exfoliating means the skin will have an even surface, so the final result will be even and, more importantly, it will fade evenly as a natural tan would,” says Jules.
You can achieve this through various methods like dry brushing, using a scrub, or opting for an exfoliating acid. Exfoliating your skin beforehand ensures that it has a smooth and even surface, making the self-tanning product adhere uniformly. Plus, it sets the stage for a tan that will fade evenly over time.
Remove make-up and deodorant
Before applying your self-tanner, make sure your skin is free from any make-up or deodorant. However, Jules advises against using cleansing oil to remove make-up, as it can act as a barrier to the tanning product’s penetration.
“Remove any make-up and deodorant prior to application, but don’t use a cleansing oil to remove make-up as this will act as a barrier to the tan’s penetration.”
Choose the right self-tanner
Selecting the right self-tanning product is essential to achieving the perfect glow. Consider your skin type and desired shade when making your choice. Whether you’re interested in tanning drops that work with your favourite moisturisers or a mousse that is the perfect tone for your skin, doing some research on what is right for you and your routine is important.
Prepping for the Christmas season with flawless self-tanning doesn’t have to be a daunting task. With a little bit of preparation, you can achieve a stunning, natural-looking tan that will have you feeling confident and radiant at all your holiday gatherings.
