Patchology beauty expert shares pro tips for maintaining glowy skin during party season

The festive season brings with it lots of late nights, partying and indulgent treats. But while your social life may be thriving, your skin might be screaming for help. We’ve all felt the effects of waking up after a night out – often resulting in our skin appearing dull, dehydrated, puffy, and with a distinct lack of glow.

Party season is the time of year you want to feel your best, so skincare expert and Director of Innovation at Patchology, Mathilde La Marre has offered her top 5 tips for reviving partied-out skin to help you look as radiant as you feel.

From deep-cleansing routines to hydrating face masks, this is everything you need to bring life back to your complexion.

1. Don’t skip a cleanse

Taking off your make-up is a task often ditched in favour of getting into bed straight away after a big night out. However difficult it might seem, this is a step you should never skip.

Mathilde suggests “Cleansing your skin at night is a non-negotiable. If you don’t have it in you to do a full double cleanse, make sure you wipe the day and all makeup away with a gentle wipe.”

2. Use a restorative face mask

After a night out and less sleep, your skin will be craving some hydration. Applying a face mask will not only replenish your skin and help bring it back to life, but the cooling effect can help to soothe any sore heads.

Mathilde advises “Look out for face masks with hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin B5 and licorice extract which help to keep the skin feeling plump and radiant. A great tip we like to share is to cool your mask in the fridge to enhance the cooling effect and help you feel awakened and fresh.”

3. Brighten your under eyes

If you struggle with puffy eyes from lack of sleep, adding moisture back into your under eyes can make a big difference in their appearance.

Mathilde says “Use a chilled eye mask to reduce any puffiness. These often work better than a topical cream as they accelerate the delivery of the ingredients to the skin. Make sure to leave them on for at least 5 minutes – or longer if you like for an extra boost. After you’ve removed the mask, make sure to massage any remaining serum into your skin to maximise the benefits of the active ingredients.”

4. Target any breakouts or inflammation

Drinking alcohol or not cleansing your face properly can often lead to breakouts and you might find areas of inflammation on the skin when you wake up.

Mathilde explains “During the busy festive season you’ll likely have multiple social events to attend – which might mean wearing make-up more frequently than usual, drinking more alcohol or eating more inflammatory foods – all of which can irritate your skin. Make sure to properly cleanse and detox your skin to help clear areas of congestion. If you’re keen to tackle blemishes before your next event, consider using pimple dots or blackhead strips that target the area directly and work to unclog pores.”

5. Massage to Stimulate Circulation

Once you’ve applied a mask or serum, use a jade roller or simply your fingers to gently massage your face. This boosts circulation, reduces puffiness, and helps your skin absorb all that nourishing goodness.

Mathilde shares “Using a jade roller to massage your face can help to smooth out the skin and helps with de-puffing. This is also a great step to use in your pre-party skincare routine as it can help to sculpt the face and really work the product into the skin.”
