Kick Off Your Office Holiday Party with Festive Cocktail Lessons

December 11, 2024

What do you think of office holiday parties? Are you the employee who always has an excuse not to show up? Maybe you’re in charge of throwing the office holiday party and you don’t have a clue where to start. You want something a little more festive than everyone standing around bored in the conference or break room. Here’s a great idea! What about celebrating the holidays with cocktail lessons? Not sure if your coworkers are going to get on board with this office party idea? Here are a few reasons why cocktail lessons can be the perfect way to kick off your office holiday party.

Get the Party Started!

There’s nothing worse than having everyone standing around bored at a holiday office party. Sure, you may have a couple of groups of people talking but mostly everyone just looks like they’d rather be just about anywhere else. This isn’t a great way to kick off the holiday season at work.

Getting everyone to loosen up a bit always seems a little easier when they’re holding a festive cocktail. Not sure if everyone indulges in holiday spirits? No worries, mocktails are the perfect answer!

You can’t deny that cocktails and the holidays are a perfect combo, especially when the drinks are season-inspired. Peppermint-flavored cocktails anyone? What about an eggnog-inspired drink or maybe one garnished with a bit of mincemeat pie? If you’re worried about conversations lagging, holiday-themed drinks can get and keep everyone talking.

You Get a Break

Planning an office holiday party isn’t easy. It doesn’t matter when you start planning the festivities, it’s still a ton of work! Then by the time the party rolls around you’re ready to take a vacation, and your work isn’t quite done—you still have to make sure everyone’s having a great time or at least pretending to enjoy themselves. Chances are your boss is watching to make sure that the party goes off without a hitch.

Deciding to host a cocktail-making office party takes plenty of work off your plate. You arrange the cocktail-crafting lesson and gather all of the necessary supplies. After that, your job is pretty much done.

You get to join in the cocktail-making lesson with everyone while also having a blast at the party you spent time planning . And after all, what’s better than laughing and hanging out with your coworkers at a party you successfully planned?

Boost Team-Building Skills

A popular buzzword around the workplace nowadays is ‘team-building’ which basically means everyone working together to complete a task or project.

Businesses use team-building as a way to boost efficiency and  it also makes the office a little more pleasant when everyone is working together. Yep, your holiday office party can sneak in some team-building activities without your coworkers even realizing it.

Cocktail lessons can easily become group activities and this can also make your life a little easier. Instead of setting up drink stations for 30 or so of your coworkers, you can cut back. So how many drink stations do you need? This depends on the size of your group and available space. A good tip is to try and keep your groups around 5 people or less so this way everyone can get in on the fun.

You can even add some fun games to the mix. Try having a timed event, so for example, which team can craft a cocktail the fastest? You can even have a competition to see which team can concoct the best-tasting unique drink—your options are almost endless so let your creativity flow.

Bringing the Party to the Office

The idea of turning your office party into a cocktail-making class has you singing your favourite Christmas songs. Now, it’s time to figure out some smaller details, like who’s giving the lesson since chances are you don’t have a coworker who’s also a bartender. Don’t worry you don’t need to enroll in mixology classes—there’s definitely an easier way to do things here and keep the party going. You even have plenty of options so you’re bound to find one that’s a perfect fit for your office party.

Online classes are always a great option, as the classes are held in real-time so you can laugh and mix cocktails along with the instructor, and some online platforms even let you have a Q&A session for additional depth.

Another option to go with is bringing a mobile cocktail-making lesson to the office. If your workplace has a large outdoor space, and the weather isn’t freezing, why not hold your office party outside? Whichever option you end up going with your office holiday party is sure to be one your coworkers talk about at the water cooler for all the right reasons.
