Best Dressed Of The Week: The Met Gala Edition
From parties to premieres, Kimberlee Oo brings us the weekly red carpet wrap-up.
The annual Met Gala, otherwise known as fashion’s equivalent to the Oscars, certainly lived up to its theme “PUNK: Chaos to Couture”. Actors, singers, models, designers and all-round socialites put on their best interpretations of punk-chic, although unfortunately it was more chaos than couture.
The majority of celebs either went a little too literal (Miley, Madonna, SJP), while others completed bypassed the safety pins and studs, instead opting for ladylike florals (Kim Kardashian, Anna Wintour). We’ve got to admit, there are some slim pickings when it comes to best dressed this week.
Sienna Miller and Cara Delevingne
Looking every bit the yin and yang, British stars Sienna Miller and Cara Delevingne rocked the red carpet in studded Burberry – Sienna in an all-white backless gown and leather jacket; Cara all sex, drugs (ahem) and anarchy in a dark low-cut number. The two fashion-forward stars punked up their blonde locks with matching side-swept ‘dos, spiky earcuffs and cornrows. Clearly happy with their lookalike alter egos, the controversial duo even locked lips later on. Now that’s punk.
Rooney Mara
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star certainly stepped back into character, vamping it up in blacked out lips, porcelain skin and an edgy Givenchy gown. Featuring zippers, lace and a plunging neckline, the 28-year-old actress mixed the chaos with couture in a sexy, yet ethereal look. The accentuated shoulders give her an almost angelic look, but her slick make-up and hair really bring her back down to earth.
Katie Holmes
Okay, so she’s not punk AT ALL, but Katie Holmes looks incredible. Although some critics have likened her Calvin Klein gown to toilet paper, the trailing gown is perfection on her. The low back and hint of side-boob take it away from wedding dress territory, while the fine halter ring shows off her tiny shoulders and décolletage. A puffed-up bouffant and smokey eyes are ever so slightly edgy, although her look is definitely more couture than chaos. Whatever it is, Katie’s never looked better.
