Red Carpet Highlights of 66th Annual Cannes Film festival
The cinematic event of the year took place in the beautiful French Riviera. Your Coffee Break anticipated that it would be a celebrity hot spot and we were certainly not disappointed! The red carpet flooded with actors, actresses and models, all dressed to impress.
Big budget Hollywood extravaganza ‘The Great Gatsby’ was given the opening slot at the chicest of film festivals, where guests came out in full force to give it the glamorous reception it deserved. Directed by Baz Luhrmann, the visionary behind ‘Moulin Rouge’ and ‘Romeo + Juliet’ (which also starred Leonardo DiCaprio), ‘The Great Gatsby,’ which premiered in New York City last week has an all-star cast and a huge soundtrack to match, produced by Jay-Z and featuring the likes of Beyonce.
Leo, who stars as the central character, Jay Gatsby, read the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel when he was in junior high school and admits to thinking that it was a ‘standard love story’. However, once reading it as an adult he ‘understood the great tragedy that Gatsby is, a hollow shell of a man creating his own destiny according to his imagination.’
The Hollywood elite were caught in heavy rain on opening night, but this didn’t stop them from looking gloriously glamorous! The twenties setting of the opening film had obviously influenced many of the fashion choices that night. Most notably Miss Lana Del Rey, who is featured on the soundtrack, channelled her inner film noir movie star. Model of the moment Cara Delevingne followed suit with her vampy look. Other guests included Nicole Kidman and Emma Watson, who stars in ‘The Bling Ring’ which also showed at the festival. Isla Fisher, who stars in ‘The Great Gatsby’, wore our favourite designer, Oscar de la Renta. Sigh!
Despite the showers, the most famous and respected film festival proved to be a roaring success and gave a preview into the lavishness of ‘The Great Gatsby,’ only increasing the exuberance surrounding the blockbuster hit. The Your Coffee Break team still can’t wait to see ‘The Great Gatsby’!
