MTV Video Music Awards 2013: Best Dressed
The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards were definitely one for the books, featuring some good, some bad, and some downright ugly.
Known for pushing the limits, MTV certainly did not disappoint with this year’s red carpet fashions and performance line up. For the ladies, the theme of the night seemed to be skin-baring dresses and thigh-high slits. Our favorite look of the night, hands down, goes to the “Best Pop Video” winner, Selena Gomez, who looked absolutely stunning in a floor-length Atelier Versace gown with a thigh-high slit and peel-away front, revealing a gorgeous corset top. Selena’s BFF Taylor Swift rocked the red carpet in a navy Hervé Léger gown with an extreme plunging neckline. The “Best Female Video” winner channeled old Hollywood glam with soft, pinned up curls and her signature red lip; this girl knows what works for her and gets it right every single time.
Presenter, Shailene Woodley wore bared her midriff in a black crop-top and a fabulously fringed Emilio Pucci Resort skirt. Glee’s Naya Rivera sported a sexy black gown featuring cut out shoulders and sides. Naya looked like a sultry siren next to her handsome rapper beau, Big Sean.
Ciara and Rita Ora both wowed in feather-embellished gowns. Ciara’s floor-length Givenchy frock with sheer insets let the singer’s Body Party speak for itself, while Ora’s dress featured a covered up backside, the wow-factor came from the low-cut, high-cut front! Although she didn’t win the award for “Best Song of the Summer,” Ellie Goulding was definitely winning in her spiked-out gown with a thigh-high slit.
Katy Perry roared in a fresh off the runway Emanuel Ungaro knee-length leopard print dress that also sported a sexy side-slit. Perry paired her dress with a blinged-out grill. The reigning iTunes queen later performed her # 1 single, Roar, in a Rocky-chic boxing outfit including a tiger stripe sports bra and flame embellished shorts.
Another singer who kept to her crowd-shocking tradition was, of course, Lady Gaga. The ever-evolving singer opened the show with her new single, Applause, and in true Gaga fashion, had multiple costume changes throughout her performance, ending in a thong and sea shell bra. The controversial artist kept it pretty tame on the red carpet in a black Prabal Gurung gown. Speaking of surprises, the king of pop, Justin Timberlake, put on a fantastic mini concert where the stars aligned, dreams came true, and N’SYNC reunited. Timberlake looked dapper as always in a black suit and tie hat, which his band mates mirrored for their performance.
All in all, the evening was quite entertaining and will have people talking about the fashion and performances for weeks to come.
