2016 Golden Globes Best Dressed
As Hollywood’s first big event of the year, the 73rd Golden Globes did not disappoint. Clad with an impressive array of stunning and eye-raisingly outlandish creations, some actresses have since been compared to mustard bottles, chewing gum wrappers, and frilly lamps (your guess is as good as mine). Despite these-somewhat strained- comparisons, there really were some gorgeous dresses (and actresses) that were out owning the red carpet on Sunday, and here are our favourites:
Olivia Wilde
Was I the only one to think that Olivia Wilde looked like a stunning burgundy mermaid? In her Michael Kors Collection gown and Bulgari jewellery, Ms Wilde brought sparkle to a whole new (and far better) level. There’s just something about her that always looks effortless and cool.
Zendaya
Despite having been compared to that dancing flamenco girl on your phone emoji (you know the one!), I think Zendaya’s Marchesa dress was rather fab. Simple, stylish, and party-able, the only thing Zendaya was tripping to was the beat on the dancefloor. Why? Her dress was so cleverly layered that it basically doubled up as a party gown. That’s what I call fashion forward.
Jenna Dewan Tatum
Jenna’s Zuhair Murad Couture gown somehow managed to be alluring, elegant, and profound, all at the same time. It was like staring into a thousand midnight skies, while having your hair stroked by Yoda.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
Rosie, who already looks like a Queen on most days of the week, has somehow outdone herself. Her Atelier Versace gown was spot on: figure hugging, sparkly, and absolutely stunning. She basically took most people’s prom dress (or other dress you weren’t embarrassed by), and raised it by a figure of one thousand.
Alicia Vikander
Best Actress nominee Alicia Vikander was a powerful combination of chic, understated, and kickass, in her Louis Vuitton gown. Something about this dress was utterly mesmerising. Was it the fine lines, the delicate frills, or the cheeky crossed straps at the back? We’re all too mesmerised to tell you.
Lily James
Former Cinderella actress Lily James looked extremely regal in her semi-sheer Marchesa gown. Fitting, in every sense of the word.
Brie Lanson
I think there must have been something in the air that night, because Brie Lanson also chose to go for the sparkly mermaid look (this time by Calvin Klein), and let me tell you, it blew me away. I am now seriously considering petitioning Kate Hudson, Brie Lanson, and Olivia Wilde to start calling themselves ‘The Formidable Sea Trio’.
Laverne Cox
In her Elizabeth Kennedy dress, Laverne looked every bit the powerhouse. With its simple lines, an elegant train, and its gorgeous statement colour, her dress was somehow lavish and humbling, all at the same time.
