American designer Alexander Wang has been named as successor to Nicolas Ghesquiere, who exits his post last week, as Balenciaga’s newest creative director.
According to WWD, the official announcement regarding Wang’s appointment will come from Balenciaga headquarters this week.
Wang, who graduated from New York’s Parsons School of Design in 2005, has gained a large following, including faces such as Miranda Kerr and Rihanna, for his “renowned edgy androgynous design aesthetic and luxury accessories”.
The 28-year-old New York-based designer and recipient of the Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund Award in 2009 has achieved tremendous success in building his fashion business which includes both women’s and men’s wear, leather goods and diffusion line T by Alexander Wang.
