Australian Designers To Know
We thought we’d bring you some Aussie designer names that are making big waves in the fashion world, both internationally and Down Under. Well-established labels such as sass & bide already have a cult following in the UK, while Colette Dinnigan has a regular spot during Paris Fashion Week. So just who’s in the new Aussie posse?
Known for their precision-perfect tailoring and their reworked classic pieces, this brother and sister team is one of the favourites amongst Australian fashionistas. Their latest collection includes a platter of unique prints, luxe sports-inspired cuts and snippets of roughed-up black lace. A great party staple, the Juniper Dress is exactly how a peplum should be done.
If you love lace, you’re going to love Lover. Already spotted on the likes of Alexa Chung and Rumi Neely from FashionToast, Lover’s sweetly feminine dresses are great for those nights when you just want to feel pretty. Look for laser cut leather, high lace collars and shocking shades of royal blue and classic red.
Distressed denim, loud prints and super-sexy jeans and cut-offs are this Sydney bad boy label’s signature style. Their 2001 debut Fashion Week show became infamous after they released live rats alongside models. Originally known for their grungy drainpipe jeans, the brand has since expanded into dresses, accessories and rock ‘n’ roll tanks. This sold-out silk print has already been snapped on more bloggers and models than the ubiquitous Kenzo tiger sweater.

Zimmermann’s highly popular ready-to-wear line featuring soft silks elegantly draped into dresses and shirts.
Possibly one of the greatest Australian designers to have come out of MFWA in the last few years, Dion Lee has won countless awards and is stocked on premier fashion sites such as Net-A-Porter, Shopbop and Matches Fashion. His digital prints have become a trademark, while his architectural tailoring and sculptured dresses are instant talking points.
