Jason Wu Joins Hugo Boss As The Artistic Director Of Womenswear
The latest in a line of high profile appointments at some of the world’s most famous brands, Jason Wu, lauded New York designer has been named Artistic Director of Hugo Boss Womenswear. CEO of Hugo Boss, Claus Deitrich Lahrs has spoken about the appointment, branding Wu an “outstanding talent” who he hopes will “generate a powerful and creative statement for Boss Womenswear”
Wu, who founded his eponymous label in 2007, is as famous as the brand he is set to work for, with numerous high profile clients, the most prominent being Michelle Obama. The first lady is such a fan of Wu’s creations that she wore his dresses from his label for not one, but two inaugural balls.
As of June 15th, Wu will take creative responsibility for all products and aesthetics related to Hugo Boss’s principle womenswear ready-to-wear and accessories. In addition to running his own label, Wu will oversee the Hugo Boss team in their studio, based in Metzigen, Germany and will open a secondary design studio in New York where he will be based.
We will get an initial taste of Wu’s direction for the brand with the pre-Fall 2014 collection, and debut catwalk show for Hugo Boss is set for New York Fashion Week February 2014. No doubt the industry will be waiting with bated breath to see how Wu translates the strong lineage of the brand.
So what can we expect from a designer lauded for his delicate details and feminine flair. Wu has already expressed his delight at the state-of-the-art facilities at the Hugo Boss design labs, which will be at his disposal and stated, “I have long been a fan of Hugo Boss’s vast tradition in extraordinary tailoring…I plan to develop strong, feminine womenswear that reciprocates the brands authority in menswear.” Combining this vision with his clever construction and precise detailing we can predict that power dressing is set to take on a whole new meaning come February 2014.
