Patouf’s A/W Collection is influenced by Jackson Pollock’s paintings

Patouf AW collection

Here at Your Coffee Break we are constantly on the look out for interesting new labels to keep us stylishly above the competition. Over the last two seasons, Patouf has been high on our radar. Founded by Anna Angseryd, the brand oozes all the Scandi cool one would associate with a Swedish brand, effortlessly blending modern and vintage styles to create an androgynous yet chic collection.

With a mission statement to “create a multifaceted but well cohesive look by adding a touch of elegance, humour, enthusiasm and audacious wit along the way” Anna has developed a personal and individual brand, creating quality garments that will last you past one season and judging by the beautiful pieces featured in the Autumn/Winter collection, they’re bang on the mark.

The inspiration for the collection came from Jackson Pollocks unconventional paintings, an artist who avoids points of emphasis or identity within an entire canvas, abandoning all ideas of traditional composition. Anna found synergy with his progressive style and the Patouf aesthetic, resulting in a collection with playful unisex pieces, themselves blurring the lines between conventional menswear & womenswear. Contrasting shapes flit between constrained and free flowing, juxtaposing flounced cuffs on a structured dress, pleated skirts with masculine shirts, oversized reversible jackets and wide-legged unisex trousers. Pollocks influence can be seen in the translation of his textures and multiple layers; ink stained prints, loose structures and metallic shades create an unexpected yet somehow telling shimmery transcendent appearance. The pieces are laced with bold individuality, all possessing an elegant and effortless roll-out-of bed ease to them.

Amongst our favourite pieces are the Reed Top & Phoebe trousers, both slouchy fits with an inky print that could be worn as separates with simple coordinates or together for a striking look. The pleated floor length Amber Skirt #2 is another piece that you would just wear forever, perfect for the office, easily dressed up with heels and definitely one you would wear into spring teamed with bright t-shirts or lacy black for a sultry look. From the unisex offering the Avery Shirt, Valter Shirt and Gaia Trousers are all must have pieces. Designed as they are for both men and women, you can pragmatically purchase them with the intention of sharing them with the man in your life, although as stylish as they are, you may just want to keep them completely for yourself.

A self-confessed coffee addict, collector of fabulous high heels and a lover of the written word, Gina plans on taking over the world of Fashion Publishing one story at a time. When she’s not shopping for beautiful new finds or devouring the latest catwalk pictures she can usually be found curled up with her favourite novel.
