Modern Punk: Add some grunge to your style this fall!
Fall is right around the corner, and before we know it, we will be tossing out our sun dresses and tank tops for boots, scarves and jackets. The newest trend this fall is modern punk. This edgy aesthetic was seen all over the ready-to wear runways and is quickly becoming popular. It was even the theme of this year’s Met Gala! Remember?
Chanel, Saint Laurent, Givenchy and Versace are just some of the designers pushing this trend for fall. Chanel exhibited the punk trend with glittery tweed and leather over the knee boots decorated with chains. Saint Laurent focused on sheer accents, black dresses and lots of flannel and leather. Givenchy acknowledged the modern punk trend with striped snake skin boots, along with plaids, leathers and oversized sweaters. Versace was able to seamlessly combine punk and sexy with chokers, vinyl and fur. Luckily, punk-inspired pieces are quickly becoming available in stores around the world, making it easier and more affordable for you to get this new trend in your closet in time for fall!
The key to getting this modern punk look, whose fans include Kristen Stewart, Cara Delevingne and Miley Cyrus, is to mix textures and prints. Layer a floral dress with black tights, a printed scarf and flannel to give your look a grunge vibe. For going out at night, pair a black dress (preferably one with sheer paneling somewhere) with a leather motorcycle jacket and a set of studded stilettos. For daytime, try wearing a graphic tee (we really like old band and animal t-shirts) with ripped denim and a pair of over-the-knee boots; and if you really want to embrace the punk trend, try tying a plaid shirt around your waist.
If punk isn’t really your style, play it safe by mixing in one element into your outfit, such as fishnet stockings, combat boots or an interesting choker a la Versace.
