The Gray Garden: Marni’s A/W13 collection in eerie new film

Marni’s enchanting loose silhouettes, edgy accessories, and chunky footwear stole our hearts many years ago. When we saw Marni’s new black and white film showcasing its 2013 fall/winter collection we were positively enchanted. The eerie video gets us in the mood for Halloween: set in a dark forest, vanishing models, and discordant music by Emanuele Scataglini, who also produced the music for many of Marni’s shows. Watching the short film is like gazing into an alternate-reality – traveling down the rabbit hole and surfacing to find a wood populated by equlisately dressed, diapering models.

The collection’s oversized tailoring maintains the label’s signature boxy look; comfortable, chic and nonchalant. This season’s collection also features some lustworthy boots, confirming that knee high boots are definitely on trend for winter. The film features models wearing strapless tops and wool culottes, paired with oversized, luxuriant fur stoles; one of the stand-out looks from the A/W12 show in Milan. Marni indulged in laid-back glamour by styling the models in long gloves that rise just above the elbow, and beautiful contrasting textures, including tweed and brocade.

We love Marni’s soft, understated glamour works beautifully in the unearthly video. We can’t wait to see what they come up with next season.
