Angels strut again for this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show
The annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show took place Wednesday, November 14 in New York City. It is lauded as the world’s most watched catwalk show and is undoubtedly one of the industry’s most extravagant productions. Did we want to look at the footage when it’s arrived to the office earlier this month? Not before Thanksgiving, the team agreed. Between the beautiful angels, elaborate lingerie and knockout music performances, Victoria’s Secret know how to put on an unforgettable show and this year’s performance was one of the most exceptional yet. The show was made up of six themed segments, British Invasion, Birds of Paradise, Shipwrecked, Pink Network, Parisian Nights and Snow Angels each complete with fantastical styling. One of our favourite looks from the show was a Victoria’s Secret first; a 3-D printed corset, reminiscent of a giant snowflake, which was modeled by the beautiful Lindsay Ellingson.
Since the brands first lingerie presentation in 1995 the most celebrated models of the day have graced its catwalk including Tyra Banks, Gisele Bündchen and Claudia Schiffer and this year was no exception. Candice Swanepoel, Adriana Lima, Doutzen Kroes, Alessandra Ambrosio and Erin Heatherton were just a few of the famous Angels who walked in this year’s show alongside fashion it-girls Karlie Kloss and Cara Delevingne, adding a high fashion edge to the show.
Twenty-eight pairs of Angel wings were custom made for the show and like past years, Victoria’s Secret showcased a dramatic fantasy bra covered in precious stones and diamonds. South African stunner Candice Swanepoel had the honour of modeling this year’s Fantasy Bra, which was encrusted in a 52 carat pear shaped ruby and 4,200 other precious stones worth $10 million dollars, making it one of the brands most expensive and decadent creations to date.
Victoria’s Secret took some risks when choosing the music performances. One Direction was originally scheduled to perform, but Taylor Swift and Fall Out Boy ending up taking their place. It is safe to say that Taylor Swift stole the show this year by tossing out her good girl image for a sexier, bad girl vibe to fit with the provocative environment. The Victoria’s Secret fashion show is scheduled to air December 10, 2013.
