Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning attend Chanel’s Metiers d’Art presentation in Dallas, Texas
The Chanel train rolled into Dallas, Texas with great fanfare on last Tuesday, December 10, for a very fashionable rodeo. The annual Metiers d’Art presentation took place at the Dallas Fair Park, with celebrity attendees including Dakota Fanning, Lily Collins and recently appointed face of Chanel Kristen Stewart.
The evening kicked off with a short film ‘The Return’, directed by Karl Lagerfeld, which depicts the story of Coco Chanel’s fashion postwar comeback in 1954, which was shown, drive-in movie style on a giant screen with guests sat in classic cars.
The show had models walking a hay-scattered runway. Strongly influenced by the city, an Americana collection followed, with nods to the classic Chanel tweed we know so well, but with added fringing, feathers and denim a-plenty. “It’s almost like going to the theater,” Actress Dakota Fanning told WWD. “Karl puts so much thought and time into every detail.”
The signature suit was reinvented once again; hemlines longer, shoulders wider and in earthy tones with the addition of leather boots and western hats for a texan touch on the traditional silhouette. Voluminous white prairie skirts were paired with Aztec embroidered blouses, cinched tightly at the waist and off white frills gave the Chanel touch to an array of all American denim looks.
Amongst our favourite looks was a fluid chiffon skirt, flowing delicately with accents of metallic fringing and paired with a blouse made up of soft layers and another consisted of a crisp white collar, sneaking out from beneath a feather-fringed brown checked shirt and wrapped up underneath a Navajo print cardigan. Model Soo Joo Park wowed in an all-white feathered creation that bristled with her every step; teamed with a solitary feather in the hair, the outfit was a true testament to the skill and dedication of the Chanel dressmakers.
The collection, which will land in stores in May, is a curt not to the artisans who work tirelessly for the Chanel label, which include milliners, shoemakers and glovemakers, among many others.
