The latest wave of designer collaborations
Designer collaborations with high street stores have allowed the democratisation of the more exclusive fashions through removing the designer price tag. These collaborations have come in huge waves onto the market, pulling in designer talent as well as celebrity names to produce capsule collections which satisfy the everyday fashionista’s designer cravings – some have been remarkably better than others, the skill of the guest collaborator is much more noticeable when their champagne budget has been replaced with lemonade funds!
Several designer collaborations have been announced for this coming year, all of which are heavily anticipated, it is almost certain that at least several pieces will make it into our wardrobes once they are on sale!
Alexander Wang, the acclaimed creative director of Balenciaga, announced earlier this week through his social media outlets his capsule collection for H&M will be due in stores this November. A strong choice for the high street store, it is expected to be a bold collection which will in Wang’s words “push the boundaries”. Revealing the collaboration at last weekend at Coachella, we can only pray that the collection is every bit as cool Mr Wang himself!
A known favourite amongst celebrities such as Blake Lively and Victoria Beckham, Roland Mouret has become synonymous with beautifully crafted body-con dresses. This collection will be designed with hour-glass silhouettes in mind, building upon the signature of the Sloane dress of Banana Republic. Mouret has stated that this collection will not be “a copy of my clothes in a less expensive of a fitted dress for the Banana Republic customer.” Most pieces will be sophisticated black, with some white, bright blue, hot pink and leopard print pieces thrown in for the women with a wilder streak!
The Mary Katrantzou Adidas collaboration is a long-term union we are expecting great things from! The kaleidoscopic palette and patterns that Katrantzou collections are notorious for will, we are certain, be a fantastic basis for the sports-wear collaboration. If her previous Topshop alliance is anything to go by, these Adidas pieces, due this November, will be definite purchases – perfect gym motivation of course!
There is no question that Alexander Wang will design a stunning collection full of bold pieces, however the quality of H&M clothes are the sticking point which may pull the collection from desirable down to disappointing – but we have hope! However, we are expecting amazing things from both the Banana Republic and Adidas collaborations, they already have high quality pieces, which with a celebrated designer input we are sure will provide gorgeous collections – the Mouret collection the front runner favourite
