Celebrities flooded the Anothony Vaccarello x Versus Versace Fashion Show
We’re going to put it out there: this September’s New York Fashion Week has been one of the best yet – not only have the collections been exquisite, but totally wearable.
One of the collections that has got us most excited is Versus Versace. Versace’s second label has a cooler, rockier edge, and has previously seen some of fashion’s hottest names – J.W. Anderson and Christopher Kane – at the helm. This season Donatella got contemporary designer Anthony Vaccarello (he who created one of our favourite looks as seen on Charlotte Gainsbourg at Venice Film Festival) on board for one of the best collaborations we’ve seen in a long time.
Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and Nina Dobrev were some of the celebs that arrived looking absolutely fierce at Metropolitan West in New York City on Sunday (September 7) to see the collection, also full of a minimalist sex appeal that encapsulated both the designer and Italian fashion house perfectly.
Vaccarello’s monochrome collection was accented with gold buttons, clasps, safety pins and belt buckles featuring that iconic Versace lion. In true Versace fashion, the collection featured very little material, and mixed masculine tailoring with feminine chic. Models Anja Rubik, Malaika Firth and Joan Smalls stomped down the marble runway in oversized shirts and jumpsuits, as well as ultra-mini body-con dresses and flowing maxi dresses.
The black and white prints were subtle in contrast to Versace’s main line but Vaccarello incorporated the Grecian key motif, lion head and lashings of leather to make it undoubtedly Versus.
The clothes off the runway were equally as impressive. The front row was made up of A-listers Rihanna, Naomi Campbell, Jennifer Hudson, Nina Dobrev and Nicki Minaj, to name just a few, and they all made sure they stood out from the crowd.
The stars played homage to the brand: actress Nina Dobrev wore a Versus Versace mini dress with fitted black Versace blazer, while Rihanna wore a white crop top with a pink embellished Versus Versace mini skirt and black Versace shoes. Naomi Campbell rocked a black cocktail dress from the Versace A/W 14 collection, while Nicki Minaj went for a bright, floor length printed Versus Versace t-shirt dress, and Jennifer Hudson wore head-to-toe Versace in a white draped top and skirt with knee-high boots.
We hear the after-party, which was held upstairs at the venue was equally as glamorous and star-studded, with St. Vincent playing a post-show set.
If this show is anything to go by, Spring/Summer 2015 is going to be hot, hot, hot – and we’re not talking about the temperature.
