Picture the scene: It’s a cold albeit sunny Sunday and after a busy working week – and maybe a couple of much needed cups of coffee – your day is centred around one thing. Brunch. It’s definitely one way to revive your tired self, but with going out comes the slight fear that you may run into someone. Someone you met briefly at a party, an old flame, a long lost friend. Our favourite way to avoid this from happening is to simply go ‘incognito’, shall we say. Some black oversized shades? Yes. But here at Your Coffee Break the one way to spend a stress-free Sunday is wrapped up in a thick knit hooded scarf, and we’ll always recommend Lämmin.

Lämmin is the brain child of a Finnish-Italian design team, creating luxurious hooded scarves for those days when you want to stay cosy, or keep a low profile in your capital. The story began in 2013, when the now Marketing and Communication leader Marianna Sgherri was out and about in Italy with her boyfriend Daniele, wearing a white wool scarf that her mother had designed and handcrafted for her years before. Marianna’s mother Minna, the Textile Designer of Lämmin, added the now signature hooded detail and after developing the idea for the scarf further, the team embarked on a successful Kickstarter campaign and the rest was history.

Based in London, but with strong connections to both Italy, where Minna resides, and Finland, home to the brands Visual and Graphic Designer Laura, there’s no doubt that inspiration can come from all corners of the world. ‘Our inspiration comes from nature, specifically Finnish nature and landscapes.’ Marianna tells Your Coffee Break. The translation of this onto the Lämmin pieces is a work of art, with each style a luxuriously soft portable blanket of sorts. ‘Lämmin is the hug you need when it’s early in the morning, when you are already running to work along the high street and you wish you could be still in your bed.’

It’s easy to see why the pieces are so desirable. Basing production in Italy embraces functionally, simplicity and elegance and coupled with Scandinavian design, this is the one must-buy on our fall shopping list.. Something a little bit more special than your accessories from the previous season.

When looking for autumnal ensembles, we’re all about layers and it’s good to know that the Lämmin scarves are for all ages and professions, an extension of one’s personality to be worn at any time the wearer desires. Maybe you’re not an A-list celeb, but for Lämmin you don’t need to be.  Their main goal is for there to be a Lämmin in every country and a piece in wardrobes all over the world! Sometimes every girl feels the need to just take a step back, de-stress and embrace her ‘me-time’ and a Lämmin scarf is the perfect way for her to sport the current trend of working with layers whilst snuggling up and still be ready to take on the city in style.

When browsing through the racks in the Lämmon HQ, one place we can really see their collection taking off in a big way is during Fashion Month, when the endless shows, glamourous parties, and not so glamourous flights can get the better of the fashion set. Even during fashion week, most of us would like nothing more than to snuggle up in between shows, wearing our biggest sunglasses and clutching a piping hot coffee. The Lämmin scarf is the pièce de résistance of any fashion blogger or editor’s look, as essential as a statement bag or heels. The team are also working hard to get the pieces seen on the runway too; ‘The dream would be to collaborate with fashion stylists to have a collection of unique Lämmins: creating for instance customized patterns for our hooded scarves and see them in their collections!’ Marianna says. We can just imagine a Mary Katrantzou printed Lämmin, or a Christopher Kane detailed scarf and they look pretty good!

Lämmin is gearing up to launch its e-commerce site, and currently sells via Shopify, but for the team there’s always room for bigger. ‘We are actually in the process of searching and presenting our products to selected boutiques and stores in London. But we won’t stop online selling: e-commerce reflects our idea of freedom and of a Lämmin community spread all around the world.’ The Lämmin passion is infectious and it won’t surprise us if there is a Lämmin in every country as they hope!
