Chanel Spring 2016 Couture Collection: Bum Bags are Back in Fashion!
Chanel Spring 2016 Couture Collection: Bum Bags are Back in Fashion!
Tuesday morning saw Gigi and Bella Hadid’s stunning Chanel Couture debut for the 2016 spring haute couture runway show at the Grand Palais in Paris, and what a show it was. The event was ecology-themed with an unusual grass floor, faux blue sky and erm, wood shavings. Yes, wood shavings in the form of bracelets, an interesting use of materials! Karl Lagerfeld spoke about recycling and reusing elements for this eco-conscious display and much of the backdrop was wooden with trees and lots of lush greenery.
We saw Gigi showcase an embellished all over neutral sequin dress with a stunning matching cape. Kendall who is no stranger to the Chanel catwalk, sported a much darker look in contrast, almost gothic inspired with a black full length dress with harness detailing. Bella Hadid, sister to Gigi, also took to the floor for her Chanel Haute Couture debut, and walked in a shoulderless 3D embellished tight bodied dress with a cute little iPhone sized belt bag (does this mean bum bags are back in fashion?). If Chanel says bum bags are ok then we will nod in agreement.
The cape was a prominent feature within the show with many of the models showcasing glistening capes with sheer and sparkling details, as were the use of 3D floral embellishments. The shoe of choice was a heeled cork wedge with a curved detail, which sat nicely amongst the ‘eco’ theme of the show.
Karl Lagerfeld’s male muse, Baptiste Giabicono was also seen walking for the show in a golden two piece consisting of a signature boucle jacket and a pair of patchwork trousers teamed with a plain white vest.
Cara Delevingne sat front row looking as gorgeous as ever but slightly upstaged by her adorable new pooch, Leo. Although we can confirm he was swiftly removed from the runway before the show started! Other famous faces taking pride of place on the front row included Gwyneth Paltrow and Diane Kruger.
The show closed with the wooden slats of the house in the background opening to show the models in groups on different levels giving one last glimpse of the glorious gowns, capes and two pieces with the man himself Karl Lagerfeld, emerging for just a moment to close the spectacle.
The blend of neutrals, embellishments, sparkle and 3D flowers has certainly got us inspired for the upcoming warmer seasons. We’re just sad we won’t be able to pull off the cape as well as BFFS Gigi and Kendall, but we can work on it.
