“Inspiration seems to be the one thing I’m never in short supply,” said Kellie Daniels, who recently launched her jewellery brand SALOME, In-Stores in London and New York City.
Founded in 2012, the SALOME collections are inspired by art, architectural and natural references from Kellie’s Louisiana roots. SALOME jewellery is sourced from all around the world and handmade, using natural semi-precious and precious stones. Produced with real stones and uniquely designed products, these are the best of the pest, and at a great price point that everyone can afford.
Kellie Daniels started her career in New York at the Guggenheim Museum; of course, not to be distracted by all of the fashion around the city. As a girl who grew up in Louisiana, Kellie’s interest in fashion started there. The streets were filled with a lot of culture, lots of theatrical elements and huge parades and festivals like Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest, where the costumes did not disappoint, they just inspired her fashion fantasies.
She took jewellery making classes while she was working and started to make pieces for herself. Come 2012, when she decided to GO FOR IT, and took a chance, organized herself, found suppliers and sources, and then the launch came around to 2015!
“Things just took off from there and as my confidence as a designer grew, I got more and more brave about applying to stock my designs with larger companies,” said Kellie.
SALOME draws in a variety of customers. Young women in their 20s and even older women as well, but very diverse. Kellie’s favourite piece from her collection is the Tribal Earrings with Fringe.
Fringe is SOOO in right now, and ads a bit of spunk to ones outfit. We don’t disagree with your choice Kellie! She said that sapphires are glorious and is in fact her birthstone. But in all actuality, the earrings design frames her (and everyone else’s) face and makes an outfit super chic and fabulous for any event.
The INTO THE WILD COLLECTION is her newest collection, and is based on natural stones from Africa. Honestly, that is freaking cool. The pieces in the newest SALOME collection include African gemstones like African Jasper, Turquoise and Bloodstone. It is inspired by the rainforest of the Lebialem Highlands in Cameron, home to the Cross River Gorilla. She has decided to donate a portion of every sale in this collection to the Cross River Gorilla Project UK (www.crossrivergorillaproject.co.uk), since there are less than 300 remaining.
“The beauty of this area, the people, and the wildlife have inspired this raw, earthly collection,” said Daniels of her African themed collection.
Have you any dreams you’d like to sell…? Dreams, only to be performed by legend Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac. We thought that song lyric fit perfectly since Stevie Nicks is the one person Kellie would LOVE to see in her designs (cough cough, Stevie if you’re reading this). Some fun facts about Daniels is that her mentor and mother is how she got the name SALOME, and the apps that keep her sane are Sleep Pillow and UNUM. The one and only fashion faux pa’s she made was wearing ill fitting faux red leather trousers in the City in London while collecting a friend form her fathers work meeting… mic drop anyone? She has great admiration for the designers RIXO & Pamela Love & By Boe.
The best piece of advice that SALOME designer can give all of us out there is to go for the one you love!
“Has anyone else every made you feel like he does?”
Kellie went after him and now has 3 beautiful daughters and, now looking back at the advice given to her, she said that it was the best bit of advice ever thanks for her Aunt Anita.
In the future, Kellie hopes to be supplying larger department stores in both Europe and America and then have TOTAL WORLD DOMINATION (cue Dr. Evil laugh).
So go check out SALOME designs, every piece is unique and tells a story.
