Is there any shoe that more quintessentially represents the summer than espadrilles? After all, these shoes date all the way back to the 13th century! Eventually they made their way west and became the ultimate summer shoe (even John F. Kennedy sported them in his youth.) In the 1970s Yves Saint Laurent added a wedge to this usually flat sandal giving them a glamorous edge and today they are still one of the most coveted shoes on the market. That is why LizzB founders, sisters Suzie and Nada adored the shoes as teenagers, but weren’t quite satisfied with some of the designs so the creative duo took matters into their own hands…literally.
Adding detailed embellishments inspired by their Mancunian and Mediterranean heritages, their designs soon caught the eyes of strangers at their vacation home on the Italian Riviera. With high demand the sisters decided to design their own branded espadrilles and their first collection ‘ORIGINS’ was born.
They quickly found a Spanish manufacturer who could produce their intricate designs as well as use traditional methods of production using hand sewn construction and natural jute to build their creations.
The line uses high quality linen, leather and bespoke hand embellished finishing touches as well as feather trims, metal studs, chains, eyelets, beads and hand-made tassels to create these must-have shoes. And, of course, all the shoes feature the brand’s logo, a bee, embossed into the leather insert inside each show. The icon is an homage to sister’s British glamorous model mother and their Lebanese father. LizzB makes more than just shoes, they tell stories.
As for how to pair your espadrilles a maxi dress or skirt is always a great way to go. Of course if you want to show them off more try a nice pair of tailored shorts. Espadrilles also look great with a pair of skinny jeans or a nice crisp white pant with a fun top. You could always go for a darker colour like their beautiful navy blue pair with tassel detailing but summer is all about embracing colour so you could try these fun pink ones. Plus because LizzB designs their own products, they can create exclusive products just for you.
In addition to the espadrilles the brand also has an exquisite handcrafted jewelry line featuring hand knotted yarns, beads, crystal, industrial and natural materials. Wear one or six on one arm and no one will even care what you are wearing they will be so busy talking about your bracelets.
All of the LizzB creations will whisky you away to a place of beaches, eternal summer and exotic people. Who knew a little shoe could take you so far?
Prices for styles in the collection range between £110 and £150.
