I couldn’t help but wonder, was Carrie Bradshaw the original Instagrammer? As Sex & the City celebrates its 20 year anniversary (and E! runs a marathon of every episode ever) it seems that Carrie would have fit in very well with the fashion bloggers of today.
In a way she was putting together outfits and was always camera ready way before social media was even a concept. Some of her outfits during the show, designed by legendary costumer Patricia Field, did have us asking many questions but most of the time we were absolutely floored by her beautiful creations. Let’s take a look back at some of the ones we’ll never forget.
The little gray dress
This is so classic Carrie. It is an LBD or rather a LGD as it is gray. She shows off her perfect killer figure and then adds a little bit of flare with her aviators and relaxed hair.
The tutu
Why is she wearing a tutu in midtown New York? Because she’s fabulous. But no fabulous that a bus with her own picture on it wouldn’t splash her.
The pink Hamptons wedding dress
Only a few can pull off the an empire bubble dress and clearly Sarah Jessica Parker is one of them. This was the season of creative costuming to cover up SJP’s baby bump. It was the perfect Hamptons wedding dress in an amazing shade of millennial pink (before that was even a thing) and it complemented her new short hair.
The ballet outfit
During the final episode of the series Carrie went full-on ballerina wearing as much as tulle as possible. When in France….dress like a ballerina? And yet, we all would like to do this someday.
The pearls
A strand of pearls is very classy so if you wear 20 are you super classy? Ehh not really but we will never forget this look though it was more costume-y than Marie de Antoinette.
The motorcycle purse
This was a tough episode as Carrie and Berger’s relationship was falling apart but we were so distracted by her weird long purse with strings that we couldn’t really focus on them.
The weird belt and skirt combo
Over the years Carrie took a lot of opportunities to show off her abs but this was perhaps the weirdest example. The skirt and blouse combo is fun and whimsical but then why the weird placement of the belt. It serves no function whatsoever which is essentially Carrie.
Flower power
Ahh the flower years, Giant flowers became a signature piece for Carrie worn a lot during Season 3 and then reappearing in more subtle ways over the next few seasons.
The patchwork coat
Carrie had some incredible coats and this one, when she first met Aidan, was a showstopper.
The newsboy outfit
We’re not sure why Carrie was dressed like a member of the ensemble of Newsies but it was fun.
The shorts and dress combo
Because sometimes you just want to wear a long blouse with your shorts.
The Yankess game fur coat
Whatever you have been wearing to Yankees games is totally wrong because she got a date with the new Yankee and all you got was a hot dog.
