If you think Siân Esther is just another typical sleepwear brand you would be quite wrong. The brand was born out of founder Siân Esther’s need to find support after going through the horrific tragedy of losing both her parents at a young age. She was struggling to get a good night of sleep and thought of how many other women also face this problem except probably not with as much emotional support as she had from her network or physical support from a lovely bed and night comfy pajamas. She wanted to bring that kind of comfort to other women, especially those who were more disadvantaged.
Siân Esther was born out of wanting to give women a wonderful night’s sleep where they feel safe and taken care of. The designer took a cue from her mother and made a line that is comprised of a few very high-quality luxe items and for every item sold, the company donates to three charities that help women thrive and succeed: The Luminary Bakery, the Marylebone Project, and Mercy UK. The bakery gives disadvantaged women baking skills, Marylebone is the largest shelter for women in the UK and Mercy has residential programs for women who need help.
Even more wonderful, these items are not just to be used in the privacy of your bedroom. They work well for the beach or just lounging around the house on a Saturday or Sunday. “Nightwear can often be overly sexy or very frumpy and Siân Esther seeks to bridge this gap by providing classic, effortless pieces, with a modern twist. Siân Esther uses beautiful natural materials; silks, cottons and linen, cut in elegant silhouettes that ensure the nightwear skims and not clings,” she writes on the site.
The items are that perfect mix of classic sleepwear designs (think Doris Day in her prime) with a modern twist but always the epitome of chic. The blue and white shorty sets (£95.00) are particular wonderful and you also just want to crawl into the oversized white night shirt (£85.00.) All of these are made of natural materials. And don’t forget about footwear! Her tasseled espadrille slippers are perfect for a vacation or just a romp in the backyard. Note that the espadrilles were produced by a women’s social cooperative out of London and her tasseled makeup bags are sold in partnership with Freeset, which gives employment to women who were victims of India’s sex trade.
Everyone deserves a beautiful night of sleep especially these women in need and Siân Esther is helping to make that possible. This is a brand with a purpose.
