If you think hair ribbons are just for little girls you would be quite wrong as the hair accessory is having a huge moment right now, thanks in large part to a gal named Kate Middleton.
The Duchess has been seen wearing a black velvet bow in her hair on two public outings and the public is having a meltdown as a result as this truly is a trend as most anyone can rock this one (and it may be one of the cheapest hair accessories out there). Plus, tis the season to wrap presents with beautiful ribbons so you should start building your collection now!
Kate sported a J.Crew velvet hair tie for $23 but you can definitely find ones for cheaper.
And Middleton isn’t the only one. Actress Karen Gillan wore a stunning red velvet ribbon to the premiere of Mary Poppins Return and in recent months Mandy Moore, Emily Ratajkowski, Sienna Miller, Margot Robbie and Christina Hendricks all sported them on the red carpet and looked chic as hell. They were also all over the runways of Tory Burch and Marchesa.
Now you may immediately get a Clara in the Nutcracker or Pollyanna vibe from ribbons in the hair (I so clearly remember Hayley Mill’s beautiful blue ribbons in hair that perfectly matched her dress in Pollyanna…) but people have been rocking ribbons since the 17th century. They are not only ornamental but also exude class. Plus they are perfect for the holidays and if we can’t all be Kate Middleton don’t we all just want to be Clara in The Nutcracker at the end of the day?
