Though the show was a little lackluster, the fashion of the Golden Globes, broadcasted last night, didn’t let us down. After last year’s modest ceremony in which all the women wore black to honour the #MeToo movement, we were craving some excitement and boy did we get it! Here were some of the best dresses of the night (and a few ensembles that left us with some questions.)
Nicole Kidman in Michael Kors
We feel like we’ve seen Nicole in this dress before but it doesn’t matter because she looked absolutely fabulous and this is a classic (and super sexy!) look.
Regina King in custom Alberta Ferretti
Another sparkly lady and a winner for Best Actress, Regina King owned the night and this look.
Lupita Nyong’o in Calvin Klein by Appointment
It’s definitely not one of her all time best but it is still interesting and the Oscar winner made this Calvin Klein by Appointment number and Bvlgari High Jewellery number work.
Kristen Bell in Zuhair Mohad
Who doesn’t love The Good Place star? And who doesn’t love this dress? It’s powerful yet subtle and just gorgeous. She has Zuhair Mohad to thank for this.
Sandra Oh in Versace
She wasn’t quite as good as Tina and Amy but Sandra still made a great effort as host and her Versace dress was incredible (she also won!)
Emily Blunt in Alexander McQueen
Sometimes you can still wear a naked dress and not show a thing! Emily Blunt proved this in her embroidered, sleeveless gown from Alexander McQueen. Mary Poppins would approve!
Keri Russell in Monique Lhuillier
Frankly this woman could wear a burlap sack and look good but The Americans star opted for a plunging silver Monique Lhuillier gown. It also didn’t hurt to have Matthew Rhys on her arm.
Rachel Brosnahan in Prada
Even though it is going to be a huge colour in 2019 only The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was bold enough to wear it on the red carpet (actually Clare Foy did too but hers wasn’t quite as bright) and boy did she pull it off. Brosnahan, who won Best Actress in a Comedy for the second year in a row for her Amazon Prime series, wore this canary yellow stunning Prada dress.
Timothee Chalamet in Louis Vuitton
Had to get one gentleman in here, especially the talented Timothee Chalamet. The Golden Globe nominee opted for the classic Louis Vuitton sequin harness, you know, like most 23 year old men wear. But hey, if anyone can pull it off, it is this guy.
Lady Gaga in Valentino Haute Couture
Last but certainly not least, Lady Gaga wanted to remind you that though she may be a movie star now, she still will wear crazy outfits when she wants to. She also decided to give Jennifer Lopez a run for her money (and Mother Ginger from The Nutcracker) in the biggest dresses every category. The tarp-like lilac dress (with her hair to match) was made by Valentino Haute Couture and though she says it was unintentional the Star is Born star paid homage to Judy Garland, who wore a similar dress in the 1954 version of the film.
