After scouring the shops for diamante-studded tops, velvet dresses and the perfect party shoe to see you through to Boxing Day, you might feel exhausted thinking about having to pull together another outfit. But, now is the time to sort out undoubtedly one of the most important outfits of them all: your New Year’s Eve outfit.
To help spark some serious inspiration, we’ve spoken with Megan Stylist, Head Stylist at online destination for independent fashion brands, SilkFred, to uncover your perfect New Year’s Eve outfit based on your star sign.
Star sign: Aries (March 21 – April 19)
NYE outfit pairing: Brightly coloured suit
Belonging to the fire sign family, Aries will want to wear something bold and colourful this New Year’s Eve, although they’ll still want to feel comfortable – so tonnes of sequins and fitted dresses aren’t the way to go. Instead, Aries will likely opt for a brightly coloured suit.
Star sign: Taurus (April 20 – May 20)
NYE outfit pairing: Velvet dress
Taureans are renowned for enjoying the finer things in life. They’re constant lust for luxury means they’ll be wearing a show-stopping dress which oozes money. Megan says: “Nothing says luxury more than jewel-toned velvet, which is what Taureans will look effortless in this New Year’s Eve.”
Star sign: Gemini (May 21 – June 20)
NYE outfit pairing: Funky co-ord
Geminis are usually playing hostess with the mostess on New Year’s Eve, juggling all the plates possible and making sure everyone is having a good time. It’s only fitting that a Gemini would wear something easy to move around in whilst still being bang on-trend – such as a funky co-ord.
Star sign: Cancer (June 21 – July 22)
NYE outfit pairing: Luxe loungewear set
You’ll most likely find Cancer at-home for New Year’s, preferring to spend it with their nearest and dearest and have a chilled night in. For this occasion, Cancers would like to wear something comfy which they can still look a little glam in such as a luxurious loungewear set made from velvet.

NYE outfit pairing: Sequinned jumpsuit
Make no mistake. Leos want to have the fiercest outfit in their friendship group, and look the best in all photos. Megan recommends: “For the ever confident and ever colourful Leo, they would prefer to wear something bold such as a plunging jumpsuit or a sequinned number.”

You can bet that Virgos will delight in taking a fair few hours to get ready for their New Year’s Eve soiree, perfecting their glam and trialling every shoe in their wardrobe until they find the right match for their dress. Ever-elegant, Virgos will like to wear something classy and timeless such as the little black dress.

NYE outfit pairing: Pink statement top
Libras will be spending their New Year’s with their partner, and if they’re single they’ll definitely be looking to mingle. Ruled by the Venus the goddess of Love, Librans will want to wear something fun and flirty, such as a pink statement top or mini dress.

Megan reveals: “Always one to go bold or go home, Sagittarians will be wearing something bold come 31st December, such as a gold metallic bodycon dress.”

NYE outfit pairing: Trousers and a nice top
Capricorns will have planned their outfit weeks in advance, but that’s not because it’s a dramatic statement. In fact, they’ll likely be wearing trousers and a nice top with some jazzy heels to hit the smart casual brief perfectly without going OTT.
Star sign: Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)
NYE outfit pairing: Sustainably sourced statement dress
Aquarians are the most eccentric of the star signs, and rightly so they deserve the most eccentric of outfits to ring in 2023. But, Aquarians will always double check the label and brand to make sure they’re shopping responsibly and choosing a more eco-friendly version.

The spiritual nature of Pisces means they find New Year’s highly emotional, it’s more than just a night to party with friends, it’s reflecting upon one year and setting ambitions for the next. Pisceans will want to wear something free-flowing and ethereal for their last night, preferably in shades of blue, green or purple.
