How to Nail the Pre-Fall Boho Chic Trend – According to a Stylist

Set into motion by Chemena Kamali’s debut Chloé collection in February and since spearheaded by style favourites Daisy Edgar-Jones, Suki Waterhouse and Bella Hadid, the boho chic aesthetic that was so loved in the early noughties is officially back for A/W 24.

Characterised by floaty fabrics, slouchy silhouettes and feminine fabrics – how can we become a certified Chloé girl this pre-fall period and into the new season?

Luckily, we have spoken to Megan Watkins, Head Stylist at online fashion destination SilkFred, who has provided expert commentary on exactly why the Boho Chic aesthetic is having her moment and how to get the look yourself.

“Already this summer, we’ve seen the rise in popularity of boho chic trends, with items such as asymmetrical silk skirts, bandanas, embroidered waistcoats and rara skirts flying off shelves. Y2K and nostalgic trends such as capri pants, baguette bags and halter-necks have been huge this summer, so it was really only a matter of time before we saw the return of the boho chic aesthetic.”

”Pioneered by it-girls such as Sienna Miller, Kate Moss, Mischa Barton and Victoria Beckham and a precursor to  the ‘Indie Sleaze’ movement of the 2010s, this trend saw us dressing in tiered, floaty maxi skirts, slouchy tote bags and basically anything with a ruffle.”

“As we saw at Chemena Kamali’s hotly anticipated debut Chloé collection earlier this year, the updated version of boho chic features floaty fabrics, exaggerated ruffles and tones of dusky pink, mauve, rust and green  – making it a perfect aesthetic to emulate for this pre-fall period.”

So, how can you nail this trend? Megan suggests:

“As well as the on-trend hues that punctuated Chemena Kamali’s collection, Autumn fabrics such as suede, silk and cotton are all key components of the boho chic look, which make it super-easy to put together this season.

“For everyday, a suede jacket in an earthy brown tone, paired with a semi-sheer ruffled top, flared jeans, boots and layered gold jewellery is a fail safe option for pre-fall and A/W dressing. On warmer days you can swap out your denim with a tiered or silk maxi skirt.

“If you’re wanting to take this look out-out, I would suggest opting for a frilly mini dress, slouchy knee-high boots and styling your hair in plaits or beachy waves for that ultimate ethereal vibe. You can also accessorise with an oversize studded belt, draped loosely around your hips or if you get cold, drape a crochet shawl over your shoulders.

“My key pieces to nail the boho chic trend are:

  • Tiered maxi skirt
  • Ruffled top
  • Suede jacket
  • Knee high boots
  • Gold jewellery
  • Oversized tote bag
  • Flared jeans.”
